Default Ticket Question

How much does it affect the value of a ticket if it is stapled to the program? It is a 1968 World Series ticket and program. Thanks! D.

You know I really don't think all that much. A lot of people did that and its pretty easy to remove it without much damage. Just leaves a couple tiny holes that actually almost disappear if you push the paper in the holes. If the staple got wet and caused a rust stain that may effect it. Its more or less about eye appeal especially with older stubs. creases effect the price more than staple holes. Personally I pretty much overlook staple holes. Now modern tickets are in abundance so people may be more picky about condition because you can be. But old stubs from specific games are just not that easy to find. PSA hasn't really got a good foothold with them like cards. You rarely hear a collector ask "what grade is it" when discussing and old stub.

Dynarl,

Most tickets of that vintage are already torn in half. Like Randall said as long as it is not rust stained I don't think it is a big deal. Most likely affects the value of the program more.

Only problem you will have is that the '68 WS Ticket is abundantly available. I would look at the stubs available on eBay (and completed auctions) and set your expectations below their realized prices. When tickets are more available, I scrutinize on condition a little more.

I would tend to agree with Scotty on this as well. If the ticket is very scarce, staple holes will minimally affect value.

If the ticket is abundant, collectors will tend to seek out the better example. If they buy one with staple holes, they tend to want to find it at a discount.
For example, in this situation I would estimate that it would reduce value by 20% or more depending on if there are two very small staple holes in a place that isn't too obvious on the ticket, vs. multiple staple holes (4-6).

They have a 1968 program with two tickets stapled on all four corners. They are all in excellent shape and the staples look like the real small ones. They are at an antique shop and they want $125. Any idea what a fair price would be

Depends on the game. If it is Game 1, then that is Bob Gibsons great game. $125 would be at market for a program with stubs stapled to it (goes back to rarity). If it is game 7, then it is the last game. $125 would be high, but maybe someone would pull the trigger to get a "seated pair" of stubs to a deciding game. All other games? I think it is way too much. Just wait and piece it together on eBay for 3/4 that price.
