Default make your baseball team by the decades

Heres a fun game if anyone else wants to try. There are 14 different decades of major league baseball,so you have to make a team using one player per decade.Rules are you have to have one starter at each positionm2 reserve fielders and 4 man rotation. If a guy played one game in a certain decade then you can put him on the team for that decade.

It would be interesting to see what different kind of teams people come up with.Heres mine and you'll notice that some players decades can be interchangeable

example; My catcher is Carlton Fisk, hes my favorite all-time player so its an obvious choice for me.I chose Willie Mays as my 60s rep but since both he and Fisk played in both decades they can be listed as either.Same goes for Schmidt and Fisk,Bonds and Clemens,Mays and Williams,Mathewson and Johnson.Hopefully you see my point now

Anyway heres my team
c fisk 1970s
1b foxx 1940s
2b hornsby 1930s
ss wagner 1890s
3b schmidt 1980s
of ruth 1920s
of mays 1960s
of williams 1950s
res anson 1880s
res bonds 2000s
p johnson 1900s
p mathewson 1910s
p spalding 1870s
p clemens 1990s

2 choices who were left off my team because of the decades squeeze are Gehrig and Cobb.I almost used Anson as my 1870s player but Spalding was just so dominat and a good hitter that i couldnt put any of the great 1880s pitchers ahead of him

Okay...seems a little easy...here is mine using only Phillies players..

C Jack Clements 1880s
1B Jim Thome 2000s
2B Nap Lajoie 1900s
3B Mike Schmidt 1970s
SS Granny Hamner 1940s
OF Ed Delahanty 1890s
OF Lefty O'Doul 1920s
OF Chuck Klein 1930s
P Jim Bunning 1960s
P Robin Roberts 1950s
P Grover Alexander 1910s
P Steve Carlton 1980s

Hamner and Clements are tough...with the exception of them and Thome, all are in the HOF...Clements should be...a full time left handed catcher, he held the record for games caught for nearly 70 years...Hamner was not bad esp. in 1949 and 1950...Lajoie did play second base for the Phils for a short time in the early part of the 1900s so that was a little stretch...interesting to see other originals clubs used.

in which case, whatever they called themselves, they're not the Red Sox.

I meant ME opening mouth, inserting foot, not Andy...

Andy made good use of the rules using 19 century Boston players(Spalding and Kelly too obviously) so he can close his "moput6h"

Why dont you pick a team instead of being critical

Ryan - I like your team, but would add that Page did also make it to the majors, although shamefully late.

Peter,

Yes, I must have overlooked him when I glanced to see who'd played in the Majors.

I actually used his Major League experience for the A's in 1965 to qualify him in the 1960's category. He's obviously better known for his Indians and Browns years, though.

ss: Wagner 1890s
res. Bonds 2000s
res. O Smith 1980s.

I fixed it! And NOBODY is listed for a time in which he was not excellent; Ruth continued to play excellently into the '30s. Wagner was great from the time he came up in '97. And I don't have to tell anybody about Mathewson...
