Hello all,

Came across this forum on a google search and after reading some of the posts and seeing the info. it seemed like a good place to start.

I'm going to be 100% honest I myself am not a collector and in fact not even much of a sports guy so my card knowledge is non existent. So why did you join a card forum you may ask? Well my grandfather was a big collector but unfortunately passed away in the early 90's which is when I inherited his card collection. He was a big LA fan so I have a large amount of Dodger, Laker, and LA Ram cards. My grandfather was very meticulous and kept empty spaces in his binder slots where he was missing cards and even kept a catalog of which cards he had/needed (this might be normal for collectors for all I know)

These cards have literally been sitting in my closest inside storage containers and i'm finally trying to get some info. on what exactly I have. I will be making more posts trying to get some info. but here is a sneak peak.

I apologize if you cannot see the images below been awhile since i've used my photobucket.

Because I took a quick glance, made an honest mistake and some forum members - Like Republican Masshole - are raging assholes.

I guess I'll go back to lurking and leaving posting to the MENSA geniuses w/ cardboard IQs of 160+.

Welcome KT. You should get some good feedback.

Those '58 cards are way nicer than those blurry scans from the pics I saw. . They have been In binders a long time so probably not Mint but they look fantastic from the pics I saw. Good luck and take your time.

The 1953 Topps cards may be from tribute set, unless there is a new 9 pocket sheet that can hold 1952-56 Topps.

In any event, nice sentimental collection and welcome!

The first photo is of 1953 Topps baseball. The middle card of the bottom row looks like a Jackie Robinson .... you'll be quite pleased what you can sell that for: anywhere between $100 to possibly $750+ depending on its condition. The Roy Campanella in the upper left corner is quite valuable as well... maybe $30-$200 depending on condition.

The second photo with the yellow cards, those are 1958 Topps Baseball.

In general, any of the bigtime iconic stars n those sets will be quite valuable:

Mickey Mantle
Willie Mays
Jackie Robinson (53)
Roberto Clemente (58),
Ted Williams (58)
Hank Aaron

If I were you, you can sell to me for a few bucks... lol ... or better yet, take the time to go thru and do a thorough inventory. You have some valuable cards there.
Actually the first photo is from the 1953 Topps Archives set, released in 1991. The giveaway is the 9-pocket sheets used. The original set was bigger and fit in 8-pocket sheets

The 1958's look very nice. Dodger collectors are pretty die-hard.

I thought the borders were kind of big and all were centered

Topps made the 1953 Archives set in 1991 and a 1954 set in 1994.

Is there a discernible way to identify them as reprints? I always wondered that about the 52 Topps reprint sets as well.

P.S. Welcome to the site, KT.

They are standard size and not the size of the 1953-54 originals. I believe they are glossy also.

Yeah, those 1953 Topps cards are definitely from the 1991 Archives set. On the left below is the Dixie Howell card from the OP's picture, followed by a legitimate 1953 Dixie Howell in a PSA holder, and a 1991 Archives Dixie Howell. Notice the much wider borders on the 1991 Archives, which match those on the OP's card.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than opens ones mouth and be proved one.
