Default 1951 angel's in the outfield

In the spirit of the playoffs, I just watched "Angels in the Outfield". The cameo's by DiMaggio and Ty Cobb were pretty cool and not a bad movie for the time.

Beg's the question, "What's your favorite baseball movie?". How about your top 3. Here's mine.

For the Love of the Game.

Angels in the Outfield 1951 (it is just a great movie)
Pride of the Yankees (stop watching after 2000 games or you'll need the Kleenex)
Field of Dreams (another great, iconic movie)

Edit - add 42 to the list (it's fantastic)

1. The Stratton Story
2. It Happens Every Spring
3. Kill the Umpire

I would put Rhubarb in my top 3 but not sure if that counts as a baseball movie.

Default Some of my personal favorite baseball movies

I always get a nostalgic rush seeing SAFE AT HOME, a movie made for youngsters, and the adult with a little bit of a boy still inside him.

I liked the original THE JACKIE ROBINSON STORY. The producers had a paltry budget, but I think they did a superb job. To be sure, and foremost, having THE Jackie Robinson himself star in the movie was perfect. The stars portraying Jackie's mother, brother, wife, Branch Rickey, and the scout who wanted to bring him to the Brooklyn Dodger organization all put in beautiful performances. Honestly, I felt THE JACKIE ROBINSON STORY depicted America's treatment of Black America much better than did 42.

I'm with you on PRIDE OF THE YANKEES and 61.

Fortunately for us, we were blessed with Ken Burns documentary of baseball. Think of all those who gave fascinating interviews who have now passed away. Not to be morbid, but that makes the documentary all the more compelling today. It's as if Ken Burns gave us a visual AND audio presentation along the lines of Robert Creamer's THE GLORY OF THEIR TIMES.

FIELD OF DREAMS is a treasure, too.

Back to the OP, it's been a long time since I've seen ANGELS IN THE OUTFIELD, but yes, I remember it well, and fondly so. I really liked the acting of Bruce Bennett in the movie. Bruce frequently portrays characters whom your heart aches for, and you become very sympathetic towards, such as TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE, and DARK PASSAGE.

These are all the Baseball 'Movies' I own- I have lots of other Baseball DVDs, but these a just the movies:

1.) Bull Durham
2.) Field of Dreams
3.) The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings
4.) Talent for the Game
5.) 61*
6.) Eight Men Out
7.) 42
8.) The Pride of St. Louis
9.) For Love of the Game
10.) Mr. Baseball (Frank Thomas cameo)
11.) The Natural
12.) Pastime
13.) Soul of the Game
14.) Summer Catch (Hank Aaron cameo)
15.) Million Dollar Arm
16.) The Rookie
17.) Major League

Edit: I forgot to include Moneyball - it would be about #8 on list above.

Another one that I love, but don't own was mentioned earlier: It Happens Every Spring.

Except for the top three, the rest can be in any order, but I've enjoyed them all.
