FS: Baseball Encyclopedia (7th edition)
Up for sale is a gently-used older version of The Baseball Encyclopedia. This is the Seventh Edition, printed in 1988 (all stats and records are through the 1987 season). The slip cover has some tearing along the bottom, but the main cover, spine and interior pages are in fine shape and virtually perfect.
Even in this age of easy-to-find information via online searches, I still find something charming about using my hard copy of the encyclopedia (I have a couple newer ones besides this one). This version is perfect for the pre-war collector/researcher who has little or no interest in the last 25 years of baseball.
Side note: I just happened to flip the book open to Lou Gehrig’s page and saw something I’d never noticed about him before. He played one game at shortstop (in 1934). Not unusual for a guy to play as long as he did and do something like that over the course of his career, but the odd part is that he was left-handed. I’m guessing it was as a late-inning move due to injury or something like that.
I’m asking $12 for this book, including shipping, which I'm guessing will be in the $8-9 range (it's nearly 2,900 pages).
See pictures below. The blueish tint in the last photo is on my phone, not on the paper.
