I just could not help myself on these. Stunning is the only word I can think of.
Both from 1956.

Chris.. this is the second or third one Ihave seen of this one. The last one, in worse shape, went for over 1k in a HYEE auction maybe a year or so ago(1400 ish I am thinking). It is a GREAT TYPE 3 shot. I was thinking of bidding but somehow held off the trigger.

Here is then last one. A rare, large-format 120 mm color transparency, that was shot with Newman's Hasselblad. Pitcher's view of a wide-eyed young Mickey (circa 1956) as he is about to unleash his power and crush that poor ball.

Part of batting sequence photo session by Newman that ultimately appeared as a a 12 panel, 2 page layout in the wonderful 1957 Mickey Mantle Magazine (given out as a souvenir by the Yankees at Yankee Stadium). Just amazing clarity.

Chris,
I agree with Ben, the last one (in worse shape) did go for something like $1200-$1400. This particular photo was used as an introduction for Mickey, as he joined the Yankees 6 days later for a 2 week tour in the majors (also received his first real glove).

Craig, I really thought about going after the Mantles but held off, They are stunning, the detail and the composition is fantastic, great pick ups!

Ben, very nice adds to your already comprehensive collection, congrats

Neither would happen today and this encapsulates what Ruth was to me. He was stricken by a VD while playing hard yet had the biggest heart when it came to kids.

I mean.. look at Ruth's face..haha! that kid sure looks proud though.

Nice pick-ups ben. I was bidding on the ruth in hospital photo but decided to go for others instead. Im really surprised on how much some of those robinson photos went for. This is proving how much photo collecting is emerging

Default Marvin Newman Slide Transparencies

I just couldn't pass up on a few of Marvin Newman's slide transparencies, which arrived in the mail today. Nothing compared to the Mantle's and others I've seen posted here so far ... but I'm happy with them none the less. I think Newman's color photography is outstanding! Anyway ... now I'm going to start trying to identify some of the slide shooting dates (that's part of the fun of it for me ;-) This shot of George Scott (Tim McCarver the catcher ... Elston Howard on deck, watching ... Al Barlick the ump ... looks like Red Schoendienst in the Cards dugout) should be the 6th inning of World Series Game 2 Played on Thursday, October 5, 1967 (D) at Fenway Park. Ron Willis is the Cardinal pitcher backing up third base on a sac fly by Rico Petrocelli that scored Scott from third, and Reggie Smith tagged from second base to third (which is why Willis is backing up third base). Bosox won 5-0. Pretty sure that's right ... per Retrosheet ... but feel free to correct me:

That Cobb was hanging around the 285-300 margin, i think when i went to sleep, I thought for sure I had it and at a moderate price. I just threw a high figure. I went for more 'eye appeal' than anything. I wanted it to put next to the 'real cards 1909 T206 red and green' The Cobb went for 595.78
As for the Ruth, i won...it went for 127.50, think it went nicely. Expected to get shot out of the dark, since it said rookie and had red sox uniform. Who else wouldnt want a rookie Babe pic.

I am getting more and more convinced that there just has to be good reasons to retract bids and I am just so dumb they haven't occurred to me.

Default Cobb

I really like the Cobb type 4 photo...very nice...

Reminds me of the E 103 Williams Caramel card that I once owned. Very nice portrait pose.

Default At least I wasn't shut out!

Well it's not a Ruth or a Cobb, however, I picked up this one for my 11 year old daughter who loves this movie and Molly Ringwald. It was very affordable Christmas present all it cost me was my pride. She is an odd child but we love her nonetheless

Love her! My daughter met Molly Ringwald in LA a few weeks ago, and said she was very nice.

The rest of mine. Nothing expensive. Primarily went for the fun and/or personal interest angle.
