A Gehrig cut signature scan I've been sent. Looks like a photocopy to me. Little hope this is real?

I'm fairly certain bleed through text, on the back reads "LEP - 316 -(?) CM". Significant?

I've done no interview as to the provinence, yet. Thanks for any help in advance.

It's a forgery, and a rather poor one at that.

I agree with David... a bad forgery. The type that always appears in Coach's Corner Auctions.

I think the numbers scrawled on the reverse might even be a Frangipani authorization code... looks very similar.

Could that "CM" be Christopher Morales?
(He's a Frangipani clone.)

David... that's a great catch.

Donald Frangiapani had a similar coding system which he would write on the back of autograph cuts, pictures, etc. He would even write his "code" directly onto autographed baseballs (right by the stitches).

I never understood who would want this, as it really marred/tainted the piece to have this in plain view (aside from the fact that these fakes were already tainted...)

I bet the CM does indeed stand for Christopher Morales. He "authenticates" most of the Coach's Corner stuff, and this one has all the earmarks of one of a typical C.C. offering.

Thankfully, I have never possessed anything from this authenticator so I don't know if his codes begin with CM. It would certainly seem to be a logical assumption and explanation.

YUCK!!!
And I concur with the prior posts that the CM probably stands for Christopher Morales.

This is probably a collector's item in it's own right.

There are millions of Frangipani CoAs.

Now, if you had a Frangipani document stating that the signature in question was not authentic...

David... You beat me to it... I was thinking the exact same thing. I wonder if anyone can actually produce a Frangipani Letter, denying authenticity? I would actually LOVE to see one.

That might rival the Wagner and Plank as "hobby rarities".

I'm not an autograph collecter, but this one smelled bad. Seller was adamant about authenticity and I'm grateful to confirm my suspicions. Thanks for the eval!
