I wasn't kidding, but checking into it, my work partner is on vacation Wednesday through Friday, and I'm her back-up - so I can't go anywhere

Man the game last night was tiring but awesome.

Memories of the Babe and 1916 danced into my head as the top of the 14th inning began.

Then memories of John Miljus danced in after the homer by Geoff Blum.

Now, although the game is played in the present, how often do you get a look into the past

Rich

Rich,
Were there many Sox fans at the game? And did you stay for the entire 14?!

What a game, it looked like neither team wanted to win! Glad the good guys pulled it off.

I've watched every game in public, and always with Astros gear on. Last night was the toughest, since we were on the verge of 2-1 which is a lot easier to come back from than 3-0.

Still can't figure why they put that stiff in there who gave up the HR and then loaded the bases - if not for Ensberg's tremendous grab at third it would really have been nasty...nastier.

Now the papers are making a big deal about the Astros not having any blacks on their WS roster...everything is about skin color these days. You can't like a player because he's good or dislike him because he's a jerk - you have to carefully factor in skin color. what a mess.

Julie,
It WILL happen tonight.

Scott, I read about that story regarding the Astros roster. Talk about making up a story for the sake of a story.

I was sick and had to listen to it on the radio in bed. Those announcers were horrid. Joe Morgan knows absolutely everything (in his own mind). And the other guy is basically as baseball-literate as Skip Carey.

The other night a Chicago player struck out with the bases loaded, but Ausmus dropped the ball. So the announcer noted that Ausmus stepped on the plate to get the force at home, since the runner could go to first!?! Has there been a rule change that I'm not aware of? And what the heck is a "fowel ball"? At least Morgan can speak common English. Sour grapes maybe, but at least if I have to listen to us lose without even putting up a fight, I'd like to hear the game announced by people who know baseball.

As of this past season, if bases are loaded and there's 2 outs, if the catcher drops the 3rd strike, the batter can run to first and push the guy off and touch it himself. He's still out but has better self esteem....

The local papers have been making a big deal about the lack of black athletes in baseball. Reportedly, the NCAA states that half of the black athletes choose to compete in Basketball, 44% in Football, but only 6% in Baseball.

I am sure that his comments would be tactful, well thought out and containing complimentary commentary for all.

Why don't any of these reports rave about the number of Hispanics in baseball and complain about the lack of Hispanics in basketball? And, if trying to be socially profound, why do these reports deal with baseball versus basketball versus football, instead of baseball versus football verus basketball versus accountant versus teacher? A reporter who cares only about the sports stars a community produces, doesn't care about the commmunity.

If this "niche" of writing went away, these people wouldn't have jobs. I'm waiting for some group to complain about the lack of short white guys in the NBA.

Julie, whose "pale hose" are you talking about?

So-called major Sports reporters like Costas and Gammons
are constantly making POLITICAL comments regarding major
sports figures. For example....Costas was very critical of
Tiger Woods; saying that Tiger would not be a major "role
model" because Tiger is "a-political". Give-Me-A-Break, the
guy is a Super Athlete in the Golf world. It even gets worst
than this example with some of these reporters in the sports
media, but I am not going to aggravate myself or the readers
recalling more of these Politically motivated comments.

Hey, we tune in to these guys because we need a diversion
from all the everyday "political crap" from that the main
media shoves at us. And then, when we get it also in what
supposed to be sportscasting, it's just too much !

My post wasn't a Political comment, but a comment on shallow reporting that pretends to be deep. I have nothing against shallow reporting that represents itself as shallow. The reason why many people enjoy Beavis and Butthead is because it's supposed to be stupid. If you told its makers that the show was stupid, they'd say "Thank you very much."
