Default 1967 Roberto Clemente Pro-Model Bat

I'm not the consigner, nor have enough funds to bid on this, but I was a huge Clemente fan and was curious if this is that rare that it will go for like 10K ? Thx.

I don't know the answer but that is a great bat and great story to go with it. Hopefully it will do well for all involved. If I collected bats/Clemente stuff I would definitely be interested.

The prices have risen the last few years, drawing a lot of Clemente bats into the market lately, but there is no shortage of buyers. Prices now usually exceed $10k for any bat with good use on it (provided his #21 is on the knob), but while it's a nice looking bat, the light use may keep the price down a little. The higher prices are usually for bats that have more use on them.

Definitely an item Al and I were super excited about, I would think it would easily exceed $10k for the historical importance alone but of course you never know.

Given that it is only a GU8 grade I don't expect that it would exceed the $10k mark. I'll guess somewhere in the $5k-$8k range.

Agree with Tim; a Clemente bat with a couple ball marks does not bring nearly as much as one would with heavier use, scoring on the barrel, any amount of pine tar, etc.

I'll definitely defer to your guys' expertise, I just really liked the provenance.

Clemente bat went for $6500, plus the vig, while seems about right to me based upon recent Clemente bat sales. Looking at the bat, I don't think there was much doubt that it was real, so the stated provenance wasn't much of a factor in the bidding. A Clemente bat with light use and provenance is still just a bat with light use, and thus less desirable to bat collectors.

After 30 years collecting, I could go into the issue of ascribing provenance to game used items, but that is a whole other topic.
