Default FOUND: Handbook To US Early Candy and Gum Cards - Egan, 1969

OK, so as many folks know, I have been searching for an ORIGINAL copy of Egan's Handbook for quite a few years with NO luck!! A board member here, Ray Novak, was kind enough to send me a photocopied one that he no longer had any use for, and I was VERY grateful.

So here we go.................

I bid on and won an auction on eBay a couple of weeks ago of some hobby publications and "checklists". Pictured in the auction was a 1960 ACC, Horne's Zeenuts book (I don't collect Zeenuts nor know much about them), The Trader Speaks, among other things. So when I opened the box, I found the ACC, the Zeenuts book, the TS books, etc. So all of a sudden, as I perused the rest of the box, I FOUND NOT 1 BUT 2 ORIGINAL COPIES OF EGAN'S HANDBOOK!! Oh, imagine my happiness!!! Also inside was an ORIGINAL 1950 "The American Book of Checklists" By Charles Bray WITH a corrections sheet, (2) Checking The Checklists by Ray Medeiros (Don't know a lot about this one), and an ORIGINAL August 1st, 1963 "The Card Collector's Bulletin" with original mailing envelope from Charles Bray!! I will tell you I felt like I was coming down with a cold that day, but after opening up my package, I felt ALL BETTER

Anyway, I just wanted to share with the board my findings, as to me, this is something I never thought I would find, let alone all the ancillary items that came with it.

Congrats Greg!

I'd be interested in the Zeenut book if it's original and you'd be willing to part with it.

Another hidden gem of this find is that it was addressed to Ray Hess, a longtime Southern California collector / dealer and great guy to deal with. I reconnected with Ray about 15 years ago and he sent me up a box of hobby literature / research to go through. I bought from Ray in the 70's at California shows (both Southern & Northern) and he always treated me and other 'kids' (at the time) with respect

Right, Mark. The whole collection of things was all Ray's stuff. Small world: I moved to California in 1991 for my company, and I moved to Palmdale

Superb pickup-can't say I am familiar with the Medeiros tome either.

Are you collecting CCB's? I debated doing so at one point but it's a long, hard road!

No, but after reading so many of the ones Leon posted, I thought they were cool. This one was in the lot I purchased, so I guess just a bonus for me

I found this advertisement in one of the publications I bought, thought it was cool so I would share where Egan was advertising his book for sale for $1
