This place looked like it was going to be real promising, but thus far has tapered off to almost nothing and now the posting frequency resembles the gameused board.

Have we exhausted all memorabilia topics in the first two weeks?

Dan- I was thinking the same thing. We're dying a slow death here.

Anyone seen any good Seinfeld episodes lately?

I'm still checking in on regular-basis, Dan! I think we're simply seeing this board taper off naturally to about the traffic that the non-sports card board enjoys. We're such a relatively small niche, it's really hard to see this site's traffic even approach the vintage baseball card board.

Clint- I was joking, but I have noticed that while the card threads have been going at a breakneck speed today, this section hasn't gotten a single post. That could change on any given day, but it's not a good sign. I've been busy today and have just glanced at the board, but where is everybody? Have we lost interest?

but it seems as though we each have our own niche inside the niche. It's like that riddle wrapped within the enigma thing, which makes it hard for us to do anything other than admire and praise the scans. I've seen more interesting items on this forum than any other.

One thing to encourage more traffic would be to have people post their new items in a separate posts, rather than "your favorite item" or "recent May pickups". Given that most memorabilia is unique, I think this is warranted, and makes the scrolls down less time consuming for the images to load.

Max (wondering how to post yet another book thread)

Going with Max's idea, it also makes it more likely that the piece will be the basis for a discussion.

Good idea Max. Just a little ticket stub I picked up on Saturday did spur some discussion. If I had posted it in the May pickup thread it might not have gotten any discussion at all.

Only speaking for myself, my family and I have a hundred things going on outside the home. Besides, it's too nice to be in the house. That's my reason. And I hope this board continues. I've got a ton of things I'd like to show on here. I've gota neat item on the way from a recent auction. I'll show it then.

As far as I can tell this board will remain. Even if it sits idle for a while it's ok. I do hope it picks up but that is for the participants to determine. Yesterday I almost felt like posting over here just to be in a friendly environment again...Those card guys are whacked out sometimes .....best regards

The posts may be few, but some great topics have been covered (and quite peaceably). The photo ID thread was great. It had inside information that most collectors (at least ones like me) will rarely encounter first hand.

Tons of rare things to show....no camera to hook up to the computer....no way to show many things. I will however figure this out...my expertise is money, not tech equipment. As Sgt. Schultz said, "I know nothing".

Mike, digital cameras can be had pretty cheaply nowadays. And if you're using Windows XP all you need to do is plug the camera into the USB port and everything is pretty much done for you.

Sadly this probably just goes to show that you need some soap opera whining and fighting to draw in a crowd. So...........

Barry, Dan, Clint, Aaron, Jeremy, Max, Mike, Dan, Erland, Greg, Jimmy, Alan, oh, and you to Leon - you all suck!

Did I miss anybody?

You know how to spice this place up?

...My favorite Seinfeld episode is the one where Kramer takes on the identity of the "Assman".

I want an assist if this becomes the first ever memorabilia thread over 100 posts.

I'm honored. No one has ever told me I suck....Seriously though, we all know there are tens of thousands of unique and interesting things out there. Many are one of a kind. Lets see 'em. I have one of a kind personal items that belonged to Foxx, Gehrig, mack. So I know every one else does also. lets see them.

That does it....you have crossed the line !!! Which line I don't know but you crossed it......Maybe it's the drama that does draw crowds? We need to get Dorskind, Crandall, Jay B and Scott E posting over here. The fireworks would begin.....and there would be much singing and dancing in the streets....

Is there a "memorabilia PSA 8 backbone society?" Bond uses steroids, I think Bush is a great president, save the seals, give to some pretty chic in a pageant....the Wagner is fake and the book, The Card, sucks.....and I say we leave abortion votes to women.....did I miss anything?

uhhhhh, Rob....

You talkin' ta me ???

If you're (note the spelling, i.e. "you are") going to start something, please make sure you at least spell "too" (i.e "also", not "to"), correctly!!! It's much more effective. (I'm only busting, I loved your post)

By the way, Barry, I'm all with you on the freaking spelling corrections on the card side.

(Is it me, or are these blinking smiley faces the cat's ass? At least I've learned something on this computer of mine)

All kidding aside, I'm glad this side is just the way it is without all of the 3rd Grade bitching, moaning, whining, childish "I get to beat the crap out of something" signatures, and ego-trips over here. They certainly do ruin it (at least in my opinion) for all of the good card guys who contribute good material.

By the way, Leon. Thanks again for this side of the site. Just because we may not be as active as the other side, it doesn't mean that we're not interested. These are all good guys.

Greg

(aplogies in advance if anyone finds any spelling errors )

Now, if anyone wants to start an A-Rod sucks chat, let me know . I'm really beginning to dislike his antics (what, me biased??). Methinks it's time for a good "spikes up" slide into third this weekend at Fenway... (only kidding, errr, sort of)

Time to go cruise the Bay, not that I have any money left over after REA....

How do you spell "hoser"? Say, come to think of it, what does that word actually mean? I know it is a less than complimentary term for a Canadian, but what is its derivation?

Barry, hoser was a term used before the invention of the zamboni machine. The losing team had to hose down the ice to resurface it after a hockey game. It is synonymous with loser.

I figured hockey would play into it somehow.

Some may remember a recurring sketch that Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas used to do on SCTV called The Great White North. They played a pair of dimwitted Canadians and every other word out of their mouths was "hoser."

Bob and Doug Mackenzie were the brothers.

And now for the quintessential Canadian trivia question:

What does the zamboni driver do between periods at a hockey game?

Your answer is unfortunately not correct. The question has been asked of many, and very few have got the correct answer, although it is somewhat obvious.

Good one Rob. That's a literal answer to the question.

Do all zamboni drivers do exactly the same thing between each period at every arena? Is it drink beer?

Q. Where has everyone gone?
A. Count me as a dedicated lurker. Like the way you can toggle back and forth to the vintage card site.

Q. What does the Zamboni driver do between periods at a hockey game?
A. Resurfaces the ice. Duh! (Maybe eats popcorn and watches the game during the periods. Or whatever).

Dan, liked the etymology of "hoser". Don't know if it's true or not but sounds reasonable. In the fifteen years or so that I lived in Canada I never once heard the term hoser until the McKenzie brothers came along. The prevailing term of mildly disparaging endearment was "Dink", rarely if ever accompanied by a modifier, vulgar or otherwise. Simply "David, dont be a Dink!" or "McDonald, you are such a Dink!" or just "You Dink!"

Q. What is the perfect Canadian girl?
A. ??

I think I told you that riddle at the first Vancouver net54 dinner (or was it the second?), or am I just losing it? However, I do like Rob's answer as well.

Max

PS as for the perfect Canadian girl question and answer, I trust I will receive large amounts of $$ from you for not referring Jeanette and Jennifer to your "??".....

Dan and David have the correct answer. Between periods, he resurfaces the ice. Most people automatically think the question means what does the zamboni driver do when he is not resurfacing the ice. However, the period in hockey is when the game is actually played. The driver resurfaces the ice during the intermissions.
