Default Question concerning Mantle rookie and seller

I have been looking at 1952 Mantles, and I noticed this nice example on eBay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1952-Topps-M...e#ht_500wt_689

My question is this seller has a shop called Lemoyne Coins and Collectibles in PA, and I believe may have been involved in shady activity in the card industry. Do you guys think this card is legit? It passes the eye test to me, but if this guy is who I think it is, it makes me hesitant to make an offer. Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks, Chris

If I were paying 15K for a card, I'd pay in person and pick it up.

Yes he is somewhat near me, and that was the plan, but I was just curious as to what you guys think. Have you heard anything about this guy, and do you think the card looks legit. Chris

Default Trust your gut

Forget what the card looks like!! If you know he has not played fair in the past and you have a "bad feeling" about it - trust that and stay away. You'll feel much better than tellig yourself "I should have listened to myself. That said - there is no shortage of 52 Mantles out there. I am sure you can find another. Good luck.

Nice! Are you getting them in order? I've thought a few times that it would be fun to get cards from some major player in order, maybe waiting a few months between cards. Sort of compressng the experience of collecting over their career to a few years at most. Ready access to stats would sort of ruin it, and I've never been organized enough.

No, I just always wanted a 1952 Mantle, so I figured while I have the extra cash, I should get one.

That card is gorgeous, I would bring 10k and flash it in his face, if he wants more say you had to borrow 5k from your brother and are already having second thoughts, if he says to low say 'you are right, sorry man I can't afford this' and start to walk away and go out the door. If he doesn't come out and say come back wait 20 minutes and walk back in and say 'ok 10k right now take it or leave it' and let the chips fall.

Are you talking about Roger Hooper? If so I can't imagine any reason to do business with him!

Isnt this the place that they were buying the stolen guns? The cops set up a sting and got the guy ( I think Hooper) to buy a stolen firearm?
