Other than the United States, which country is the birthplace of the highest number of HOF members?

Canada?

Dominican Republic?

Cuba?

Puerto Rico?

Panama?

I would say Puerto Rico. Originally I was going to guess the Dominican Reb. but then thought that players from the Dominican are a more recent development.

Being that Puerto Rico is part of the United States, it could not be correct.

Canada? - Fergie Jenkins

Dominican Republic? Juan Marichal

Puerto Rico? Roberto Clemente, Orlando Cepeda,

Panama? Rod Carew

You can add the UK and there are a few from there but that wasn't a choice...

Lets keep adding to the list...

Hal isnt the brightest guy so he probably worded the question wrong and he meant hall of fame players.Putting a question mark after each one doesnt disqualify England as being a choice because he put a smiley face after all those choices he was probably either hiding something(like he didnt know the answer) or he had a big bowl of ice cream

Aside from Hal's smiley face, I was just shocked to find out Jack Graney and Jeff Heath weren't in the Hall of Fame (not to mention more modern Canadian stalwarts Pete Ward, Reggie Cleveland and Kevin Reimer)

Hal,

Do you have the rookie cards of each and everyone of the non-US born players?

For what its worth even though the choice was wrong, Puerto Rico is a territory of the US, it is not "part of" the US any more than say Guam. While Puerto Rican citizens do share many of the rights enjoyed by US citizens, they do not share some of the more important rights - such as the right to vote in federal elections or representation in congress.

The answer, of course, is indeed ENGLAND!

I said "members" of the HOF, not players.

The countries I listed were not the ONLY possible answers... just some to get you off track.

Hey... the only reason this went on the "vintage" baseball page was because the three winners from England were all "vintage" players:

Harry Wright
Henry Chadwick
Tom Connolly

The site Baseball-Reference.com allows you to run queries against some of its data. One of the queries is a Place of Birth Report.

For all 16,001 players who debuted prior to the 2003 season the United States is the most frquently cited place of birth (14,204 players, 88.8%). The remainder of the top ten is rounded out by:

Dominican Republic (357, 2.2%)
Unknown (311, 1.9%)
Puerto Rico (209, 1.3%)
Canada (200, 1.2%)
Venezuela (158, 1.0%)
Cuba (147, .9%)
Mexico (95, .6%)
Panama (44, .3%)
Ireland (40, .2%)

Forty-four other locations are represented, but my favorite is the one poor soul who listed "A Ship on Atlantic Ocean."

Anyone have any idea who that might be?

Hal:

Unfortunately for him, Miles was good field, no hit!

I know you can't wait any longer to find out, so here's the link to the Atlantic Ocean baby:

Interestingly, three guys have the Atlantic Ocean as their place of death as well:
