Default Huge shout out to Davidbvintage!!

I see tons of negativity in our hobby and the world in general. In an effort to counterbalance the hostility, I want to single out David Bryan. David goes by davidbvintage here and on eBay.

A couple months ago I got a wild hair that I wanted to collect n151 cards to go with my other 19th century collection. I searched and found a small horde of them listed on eBay. All listed by davidbvintage. Prices seemed a tad high, but what did/do I know. These are scarce as unicorn poop, check the pop reports. Anyway, I looked in my bank, I looked in the cushions of the couch, I looked on the washing machine and I looked in my cup holder of my truck - same result everywhere, no moolah to be found.

Fear began to course through my veins, what if someone else buys these rare gems, what if he comes to his senses and declares them to be no longer for sale. What to do, what to do. A light bulb went off.

I looked here on net54 and low and behold, a member with the same name!! I reached out to this seller and asked him a preposterous question - will you sell these cards on a lay-a-way type arrangement? Oh yeah, also can you give me a better deal?

Mr Bryan agreed to both of my requests. However his idea was a lot shorter on time than I had planned. So, I countered with a schedule of my choosing and a deal was struck.

After I had 400 bucks paid as a deposit I had a small family emergency that soaked up the cash I was planning to pay the 1600 balance with. I reached out to David and told him the issue and offered 3 solutions with the final choice being his. I offered the following:
1. Cancel the deal and he keep the 400 bucks as a penalty for my tardiness (I fully expected him to choose this option)
2. Cancel the deal and refund my 400.
3. Continue the deal and extend the terms by 45 days.

David choose to continue with the deal. The rest of the payments were made timely and in fact were reasonably close to the original final maturity and was paid in full on 10/13.

I received the package today and it was shipped quickly and professionally. I can’t say enough good things about a man that operated in this manner with a buyer he had never met. I did take a leap of faith, as I made all payments by friends and family. As it turns out, that was the correct means of payment. Mr Bryan may not be family, but he is definitely a friend now, and hopefully we will meet at some point in the future.

I agree that David is a great person to deal with. I've purchased many T206's from him over the years on Ebay and have never had any issues. It's nice to hear some positive things.

Also a big David Bryan fan here. I've been buying from him since the pre-eBay days and he's always been absolutely top notch. At the Apex of the hobby, as it were.

Right there with ya' Jay. David is one of the handful of hobby guys who I always happily spend as much time chatting with him as I can at the National each year .....and occasionally on the phone. Certainly one of the good guys in the hobby.

David is as honest and ethical as anyone in the hobby. You never have to worry buying or selling with him. I've known him since the 1980's- he's even stayed over as a guest in my apartment. A genuinely good guy (hi David!).

Just to add another 2 cents, David has been a pleasure to deal with for many years. Importantly to me, he conducts himself at all times like a gentleman, something I can't say about certain dealers.

Great dealer. Just got this in the mail from him yesterday as a matter of fact. He packages cards better than pretty much anyone else, which I really appreciate. I always wonder what the added piece of styrofoam poster board that he tapes to the packaged card is for though.

It quite possibly is a Sherman rookie. with many non sport sets the date of manufacturer is unknown.

As the saying goes, what's not to like? Over the years I have bought a dozen Old Judges from David, but none were more important than two commons I got just a little over a year ago.

I had won three Old Judge glass plate negatives from the Saco River Auction Company in January of 2015. For one (Corcoran) I already had the matching N172 pose in my collection, but I needed the N172 same-pose cards for Arundel and Cahill. Despite the fact that they are commons, they are not as easy to find when you are looking specific poses. Flash forward a year...Rob Lifson had a few lots of Old Judge commons in his Spring 2016 auction. Among the cards were the two very cards I needed. I asked Rob to pass a message on to the eventual winner in the hope of making him an offer.

The winner was, in fact, David Bryan. Long story short, Dave accepted my offer to buy the cards before he listed them on ebay. I was one very happy camper.

All of my dealings with David have been similarly smooth and easy. He's a great seller to work with.
