Default 2016 Topps Transcendent

Not sure how many on this site have been tracking this product but over at BO it's been big news for the past 4 weeks. The cases cost $24k each and were #d to /65 in celebration of Topps' 65th anniversary. Each case contained an invitation to the Topps Anniversary Party held in Las Vegas on 1/18 with a special meet and greet with Kris Bryant who was the featured player in the release. Each case also contained a box topper cut auto, a 1/1 Kris Bryant auto with him pictured on a past Topps design, a 1/1 sketch card, a number of autographed cards of HOFers and future HOFers numbered /52, /25, /10, and 1/1. There was also a base set of star cards and sketch cards /65.

Since not many collectors could afford the $24k to buy a case, BO purchased a number of cases and did breaks allowing collectors to pay to be in a lottery of sorts to draft cards they desires. As a Dodgers collector I mostly went after the Dodgers cards and just received them in the mail a couple days ago and am thrilled by them. I love the metal borders on the base and auto cards!

To top it off, apparently the door prizes for the guests in attendance at the anniversary party were pretty nice and now cards that were received are filtering onto ebay over the last couple days with some more nice Bryant cards, some Mike Trout auto'd cards /15 and a slew of 1/1 stamped cards released to only those in attendance. These cards also have a 65th logo stamp on them.

Those are hideous. Not a single autograph looks like it actually belongs on the card. I'd be pissed if I dropped that much money on a box of cards and pulled one of those. Your autos though are very nice. Do you mind if I ask how much your slots cost? Just trying to see if you were a winner.

That looks like a 12 year old version of a Wagner signature. Saw someone post a Greenberg that must have been juvenile aged, if it was real. That is some pretty crappy looking stuff for such a high end product. That guy who won the Clemente in a break must be dancing now. I assume that was a huge win for him.

That is a lot of scratch for a set of cards, but the base cards are really nice. I PC Reggie Jackson and picked his up on eBay for $25 a few weeks ago.

I agree, the cuts could have been designed better...at least fill the space designated for the cut. But regardless, owning something that scarce is pretty friggin' cool. The break spots were $146. If you hit an auto you made your money back and then some. I doubled my money overall but there were some guys who took a beating. On the flip side, for those who won a 1/1 got a really nice return and with only 173 spots the odds were good.

I've heard some chatter about this product. I thought it seemed pretty cool.

I did two breaks for the fun of it. I had a huge win in one break (over at The Clubhouse on FB...around $175 a slot I think, with some of the money going to St Judes) getting a Bryant /10 parallel and a Pele /25...The one I did on BO, which was far cheaper ($116) I did okay..Henderson /52, Clemente and Clemens base cards. So took a bath on the Clemens hit but overall did pretty well. And that's the extent of my Transcendent adventures.

The anniversary party invitations in the cases were selling for $2500-$4500 and were the reason there was a mad rush to break these cases open because the owner of an invitation had to rsvp within a week before the event on 1/18. Apparently, based on what I'm reading on other threads $2500 was a bargain considering all the limited cards that were handed out to the attendees. Among other things, each guest received a "swag bag" which contained:

1 Trout auto /15
1 Bryant auto /15
1 Random Transcendent auto /52
1 Bryant Party Card /65
28 1/1 cards or low #d autos
65 Bryant cards /65 (1952-2016)
Topps bag, jacket, hat

At BO they are currently breaking some of the swag bags they brought back from the party at $62 per spot

Picked up a Reggie during the flash sale last week, as a type card.

Card arrived today. What an interesting product. For those who haven't handled one of these yet, here is the skinny:

The card has a 1/8" wide polished metal rim that frames the card front and back. It is heavy. The card weighs over an ounce by my scale. The cardboard part itself is just basic printed card stock. White stock on both sides. No coatings or specialty finishes other than the silver foil detailing that makes up the diamond framing the picture and the stamped number on the card front. The cardboard part is about as thick as a memorabilia card.

By way of reference there was another discussion on this topic in the Water Cooler area as well. Here is the link:

Usual haters and doubters. If you have the scratch it would be fun to play.

Updating this thread, the Transcendent brand has continued and the more it does the more accessible the base older cards get. And the base cards are under 100 cards of each, so it is a nice type or player collectible.

Here is a 2017 Aaron:

And Koufax:

I've picked up a couple of Pedros too, on the cheap.

Anyone else still going after these?

I just sold my Clemente from 2016 for a little less than I paid for my spot in a break that year. I held on to my others that I won ( autos of Pele /25, Bryant /10, Rickey H /52) because I think they are cool. As far as newer Transcendent cards, I have half heartedly gone after a couple of Fisks but would probably only really hard after an autographed Fisk if it existed.

Not sure I'd be too happy with my Bryant chase cards anymore.

You guys suck!

Hadn't seen this before, or even knew of these before.

Now I have a couple of Ripken's in my watch list.

Pretty good chance that after a couple of Bourbon's tomorrow night I'll own one or more autos.
