Have any of you ever seen another card with a pinhole grade VG3?

I guess this shouldn't be very surprising. Every other PSA graded card with a pin hole I've seen has been graded no higher than a "1". I've seen SGC grade them as high as a 30 (2).

I know Rustywilly very well, he is a super guy and I highly recommend him. I just didn't want this post to be reflected on the seller.

My reaction is twofold: kudos to the seller for being very honest in mentioning the pinhole; unfriggingbelievable that a card with a pinhole gets a 3 from PSA. It is not exactly like the card is otherwise NM. Please tell me who submitted the card so I can have him submit mine in the future.

FWIW, I submitted a Phil "Scooter" Rizzuto 52 Berk Ross to PSA many years ago, and the card, which I thought (naively and stupidly and anti-myopically) was a solid NM, came back a 2!! I was shocked until I saw that it had been stapled at some point (hmmm, could I have missed it, or did PSA staple my card???), and there were two pinholes where the staple had been through the card. Nonetheless, it got a 2. And the card wound up being donated to a kids' hospital in New York where someone needy could really get some enjoyment out of a local hero's early card.

Sure looks like a younger version!

I don't understand how PSA can grade at that level with a pinhole. A very minor amount of paperloss maybe, but not a pinhole!

Wow! I have never had a card graded more than a "1" with a pin hole. Had a nice '65 Mantle with a single pin hole. Would have been a "6". Just had a Joe D. '52 Berk Ross with a single pin hole that would have been a "3" or "4". I'm pretty surprise that PSA missed that one.

Or have we forgotten all the other strings?

Can you imagine being a little kid in the 1930s and opening a pack of cards to find that image staring up at you? Nightmares for days...

First, I extend my apologies for not responding to this post sooner. The last thing I wanted to do is create a grading company bashing session. I returned to Denver after traveling and found some time to inspect the card this past Sunday. Selling cards is a part-time business for me in the evening hours after my day job. I try to do my best to be honest. The item description was written more than a year ago (the card’s been listed several times). After re-examining the card over the weekend the hole does not actually pierce the back of the card. It’s not a pinhole. I guess this was an assumption on my part, a mistake, when I first wrote up the description – most likely during a busy night of listing dozens of items. There’s just paper loss in a small concentrated area and it doesn’t even protrude to the reverse. In my opinion the card is accurately graded VG – in similar condition to most ’36 WWG cards you’ll find out there on the market. I will be updating the auction listing shortly.

In my opinion professional grading has provided customers with a higher level of buying confidence on the internet. No company is perfect and all have slabbed cards with wrinkles/creases in EX+ holders – let’s be honest. For the most part, I believe the major players are fairly accurate within a grade or two. I think we can all agree they're more accurate then some of the mail order catalog dealers out there. The most important rule is to buy the card and not the slab.

jwasserman – great bela lugosi pic, funny stuff

Dan – thank you for being a friend in this hobby of ours. I love my ’36 Foxx!
