Default Carlos Alcaraz

After beating Djokovic at Wimbeldon, he lost to him today in Cincinnati in an absolute epic (for a three set match anyhow). He fought off four match points and came back from 5-3 down in the final set to force a tiebreaker, but finally succumbed. At age 20, he is no worse than the second best player in the world, and while there are some very good younger players out there, it seems none of them are close. Once Novak finally slows down, Carlos may win constantly.

Totally agree. And he's fun to watch as well. Reminds of a young Rafa in terms of watchability. As an aside, I find Novak to be the opposite. He is obviously awesome, but I find that he measures really low in terms of likeability.

I agree, Carlos will be fun to watch for years to come but I wonder if anyone else will step up and be a rival.

Novak is still here for a few more years, unless injuries get him but after that Only time will tell.

At one point it looked like Medvedev would move to the level of winning lots of majors but so far that has not happened. Not sure if anyone else other than Alcaraz is out there currently.

Here are a couple of Alcaraz rookies I bought on a whim.

At least at this tender age, the kid has a great attitude.

Agree. He's eminently likeable to watch. And seemingly the anti-thesis of the bratty tennis kid.

So of course Alcaraz has made it to the semis. Medvedev tomorrow. Meanwhile, two US women are in the semis, and potentially it could be an all US final but Madison Keys would have to pull off a major upset tonight.

I'm hoping we get:

Alcaraz v. Djokovic
Gauff v. Sabalenka

I would love to see Keys win and set up an All American final. But that's a tough opponent who is playing at her best.

I think Shelton's Cinderella run is over and he gets a wakeup call from the GOAT, but who knows, the kid is running on adrenaline and the best way to beat a Djokovic or similarly superior player is to play fearlessly and extremely aggressively and Shelton is all about that. If he trades strokes with him he gets his ass handed to him.

Oh man, Keys was up 6-0, 5-3 but could not close it out.

Yes, and now we have the Battle of the Unlikeables in the final. Choosing to root for Djokovic or Medvedev is like trying to decide whether you want your NFL team to be bought by the Saudis or Dan Synder.

Women's final soon. Go Gauff!!

Sabalenka is a slight favorite, which surprises me; as good as she is she only has one Grand Slam title and can be unstable.

Hopefully for you that you can win back on Medvedev what you lost on Sabalenka.

Medvedev climbed a mountain to beat Alcaraz. I don't think he has two in him. Novak wins comfortably IMO.
