Default N172 Radbourn Portrait

Was $1450 an incredible bargain? I thought this card was worth at least twice that. I would have bid well over $1450 myself except that I'm making a major purchase tomorrow.

Paul, I was also watching this auction. I'm in the same situation you are, I was ready to bid and decided not to because I'm hoping to win an auction tomorrow. I hope we aren't bidding on the same auction!

Dan, mine is a private sale, not an auction.

I usually snipe my auctions, but for a change I thought I'd bid while watching it count down this time and clicked on the wrong darn tab in the closing seconds. Instead of hitting the "bid" button I pressed the "add to my watch list" mistakenly. AARGH!!! Not sure what the winners max bid was, but mine was much higher that what it closed at. Congrats to the winner.
Great card!!

Great bargain. I bet it would have sold for more if "N172" was in the title.

The seller is very trusted. I was the underbidder on two of his ojs tonight:

Von Der Ahe and Burns.

I should have gone at least 50$ more on the first and I'm a little surprised I didn't "win" the second.

I did get a consolation prize in Nick Smith. Not a bad Lookin' card for 91$. I really wanted the Von Der Ahe. It'll probably be awhile before I see another nice raw example with a nice photo for that price.

I usually put the designation in my titles but I must say, if you are an old judge collector and you do not search for old judge, then shame on you. Mom and Pop's Antique shop off the beaten path in bum pluck Idaho can read the Old Judge ad on a card they may put up for auction but they will have no idea that it is an N172.

I also feel this pose is cataloged as listed in my title 377-6. It is a different year than the example pictured in the book but it is the same pose.

Jay Miller care to comment on this?

Hi Dan--Yes that pose designation is correct. I get lazy some times and just search N172. I do this to avoid all the modern "Old Judge" cards in the Old Judge listing.

I thought it was cataloged, thanks Jay. Yea I know what you mean but I try to just do -reprint and -20* and -19* to try to see everything.

Ebay has completely ruined the categories.

Sorry you missed it, I should have sent you a heads up, that was my bad.

My consigner was very happy so I guess everyone wins here.

Thanks to everyone in this thread who bid whether they won or not, remember, successful auctions need under bidders as bad as they need winners!

Thanks again
dan
