Interesting 19th Century Baseball

A recent pickup. It's cloth filled and is a hybrid type of ball with elements of lemon peel and belt ball construction. The size and weight of this baseball is typical of those used for townball. The ball is very soft also, which would have been perfect for soaking (hitting) the baserunner for the out!

Believe it or not, I have been married for 15 years. Unfortunately, my wife doesn't like these big lumpy baseballs lying around the house, so my office colleagues are stuck looking at them

I've been married for ten years and also have a nice collection of odd memorabilia and photographs. I find that such objects enter the home far more easily if they're greased with a bit of jewelry. I'm not sexist--my wife just happens to like jewelry. If she had a hankering for Wankel Rotary Combustion Engines, I'd bring those home with my relics of dead ballplayers.

My strategy is a bit different. Because my collection is displayed in my office, I have everything sent to work. My wife only comes by the office 2 or 3 times a year so when she walks in, she will look at something and give me the "Oh, I haven't seen this before". I always respond that I have had that for awhile now. I figure if I have had something for over 1 month, I have had it "awhile"

has never understood why I collect baseball stuff - but like I have read many times on here that all goes away when she sees some of the green that I can get from this "stupid cardboard." Great find by the way.

some "green." But he knows I love them, so occasionally even gives me dough for them. He's nothing compared to my psychologist: she says it's a "horrible addiction." SHE spend $300 on a sweater, while I spend $18!
