Default 1954 Topps Canada Question

Posted By: JamesWalkerJr

I recently found out that cards 1-50 from the 1954 Topps set were also issued in Canada.

According to Dick Gilkeson, author of "Baseball Card Variation Book," cards 1 to 50 come with gray backs printed in Canada rather than the white backs. (copied from http://www.oldbaseball.com/refs/variations.html)

My question is, do the cards actually have "Printed In Canada" like the 1966 O-Pee-Chee set, or is it just the "gray backs" that indicate it is from Canada?

Thanks for the help,
James Walker, Jr.

James,

The cards do not have "Printed in Canada" on them. With the exception of the gray cardstock on the reverse side, they are essentially the same.

Default 1954 Topps Canada Question

do you attach a premium to them? In selling or buying? Just wondering. Not the consummate 1950's Topps guy but wondering if they commanded any type of premium.............

Default 1954 Topps Canada Question

Some card premiums are modest while others sell for a significant multiplier. I haven't really ever tried to search for common player scarcities, but I'm sure some cards are significantly tougher to find in top grade than others. Just off the top of my head, I don't think I've ever seen a decent Ted Williams.
