I saw some nice Spalding reeded shin like that a year ago, but both the shop keeper and I thought they were equestrian.

Why would you think that they were equestrian? Not aware of Spalding manufacturing anything for equestrian/horses. If it was Spalding, I would think that they would be for football. Thoughts?

I believe John Kanuit had a pair of those reeded shins at his booth at the National. Just going from memory, having seen Carlton's photos.

I have John's contact info, if you would like to pursue it... I bet he still has these (or another pair...)
