Default How would you respond to this seller's request to cancel the order?

I purchased a BIN on ebay for $475 and shortly later received this message via ebay from the seller.

"Thank you for your purchase, but I've made a mistake on the listing. I had intended to list the Herbert card for $1900 because of the low population. I will honor your purchase because it was my mistake in listing. That being said, with your consent, I would like to cancel the trade and relist at the correct price. Thanks for your consideration."

The exact same card, same PSA registration number sold in Jan '18 for $565 so although I think I got a decent deal, the card certainly isn't worth anything close to the $1,900 realm.

I'm not casting any judgement on this guy but as a buyer, what would be your reaction and how would you respond? FYI this guy is a top rated seller on ebay and has over 5K positive feedback rating.

Thanks

I try to cut sellers slack if I think they made an honest mistake. The fact that he is willing to honor the initial price shows sincerity on his part.

I'd probably counter with the price you think is fair, which sounds somewhere between the original price and his intended price. I might even say, "Hey, I'm pretty sure the card is more like $1200 because..." and then suggest he list at $1900 but then sell to you at $1200 if nobody bites on his higher price.

The closest experience I had to this was when I saw a GREAT collection of cards with a BIN of $9.99. The seller contacted me immediately to say he meant to list as Auction. Sure enough he pulled in something like $400 when he relisted correctly.

How long did he have it listed for? If it was sitting for days I would expect him to go through with the sale. If it was up for just a few hrs/minutes I'd give him a break.

Mistakes are going to get made, and all of us have certainly made our share.

I would let them keep the card and move on.

Right way to handle it. Seller seems to have approached it professionally and could have just lied and said he lost it.

Thumbs up You are doing right

You have decided to act with honor which is not common these days. This is much more of value than any card. Congratulations on your strong character decision.

You did the right thing. I have a feeling you'll be rewarded for your honor at some point in the future.

Thumbs up

Looks like the seller may have made an error is in the listing anyway, as the card mentioned in the description area of Herbert listing is still listed and priced at the $475 price point. Either way, the buyer did the right thing.

Wondering if youd mind sharing the seller? This could be his MO. List cards, if one actually sells, run to vcp and see why, then cancel of it's a low pop, variation, etc

The seller had the POP in the title, IMO a seller pricing error

Here is the listing for the Herbert:

That's one messed up listing. One card in the pic and title, a different one in the description.
