Default Show & Tell: Autographed Pre-War Card

It's been awhile since we've had one of these, at least on the card side. Here's a signed T206 Nap Rucker, which I love because of how the blue ink matches the blue in Nap's uniform.

Show 'em if you got 'em!

I'd show that one off at every opportunity too, Dan. Just acquired a 1946-47 Boston team issue photo of Ted Williams, which, per Steve Verkman, was autographed at or near the time of issue--beautiful portrait photo and signature; LOA from James Spence (sorry, no scanner).

Best wishes for every aspect of your collecting,

Larry

Agreed. That Gehrig and Joe Wood are just sick. Amazing cards of the signed pre-war card world.

Default autographed pre-war cards

mine has been completely trumped by the "show-stoppers" in front of this post, but here's my modest contribution to the thread:

Thanks for the attaboys, guys. Here's a couple more from the post-war era. Pretty much have shot the works here (except for my Moose Skowron autographed card collection ).

Mantle autographs are cheap like borscht but I still love this colorful gem.

Sorry, Doc. No Cobb auto. Am waiting for a D304 or an M110 with a green ink sig but no luck yet.

These are all really, really special! As I've said before, the card connects you to the player and takes you back to the time, capturing just an instant of the player's life during his career, BUT THE AUTOGRAPH SEEMS TO ADDITIONALLY ADD JUST A TOUCH OF THEIR SOUL, especially with a deceased player and vintage card!

Great cards all, guys,

Larry

I REALLY like the signature on that T206 Marquard throwing pose, and the condition of the card. It really holds the sig so well! Thanks for sharing!

To me, there is nothing better than a unique card that happens to also be autographed (even though I don't collect autographed cards). This card is a companion to the autographed Goose Goslin - Leader Theatre card that appeared in Leon's auction. Another Board member has the companion, to-die-for, autographed WaJo - Leader Theatre card.

interesting how different some of the auto's look especially noticed the Joe Wood examples. Must be hard to authenticate these!

This is a great thread...I really love the pre-war autos. Gotta stop looking, I'm afraid my bank account won't handle it.

Love the signature on that T205 Jones. That came from Jeff Morey's old collection. Sure would love a chance to get that beauty back!

The Max Carey is sweet. There are a few T207 Marquards floating around, but not many. But, if you look, you might find a signature on a T201, which were popular with TTM autograph seekers. Here's my collection of signed T201s:

I am a huge Lou Gehrig fan. Kawika, if you even want to pass along your autographed
1934 Goudey Gehrig, please let me know. That's probably the one card I'd love to own
above any other.

I monitor Lou Gehrig autographed cards. To date, I'm aware of seven total signed 1933
Goudey Gehrig cards. Here's six of them:

The 1934 Goudey is the only know signed sample as is this DeLong card.

Thanks for the compliment, Erik. The signed Gehrig card is definitely a crowd pleaser; it's probably the best item in my collection and I'd be loathe to part with it. When I kick the bucket it will probably find its way back into the hobby. Haven't worked out the details yet. There is one other autographed Goudey Gehrig portrait card that I know of. It was purchased by a fellow who used to post here regularly but whom I haven't seen around for years. I found this scan in a 2009 thread after scouring the N54 archives. It's sorta o/c and the back had some not-so-nice paper loss but the signature is exquisite. The '33 #92 Batting (12485177) with the pencil autograph used to be mine but I let Al C have it for his first LOTG auction a while back figuring that having two signed Gehrig cards was just being greedy and bad cardboard karma.

.

Default Re: Show & Tell: Autographed Pre-War Card

Here's my contribution. Years ago I used to mail old Hall of Famers for autographs.
99.9% of the time they obliged my request. These are the only three that I have that
are pre-war.

I am loving this thread. I don't consider myself an autograph collector but I do enjoy picking up certain signed HOFers from time to time. Wonderful cards guys. Here's what I can contribute. Please know - the Marquard was sent to me as a kid in 1980 about a month before Rube passed away. I didn't know it was a stamp until SGC told me about 30 years later. I consider his stamp to be more rare than his actual signature. (joke but you know what I mean).

Hope you like...
