M101-2s Advertisement

This might have been discussed before but I recently acquired a 1913 Spalding baseball guide and when I was flipping through the pages I came across the advertisement scanned below for M101-2s. I was able to purchase my copy (sans covers but otherwise intact) for 5.00, so others might be able to find ones at a similarly low price and add a cool ephemeral piece to their M101-2 collections. Or, if anyone wants to know if certain names are on the list, just let me know (I could not make a better scan).

Very interesting. I didn't know M101-2s were distributed in any way other than through issues of the Sporting News. Interestingly, several notables are missing from that list (Cobb, Wagner, Matty, Cobb/Wagner, etc.) and the ad says these are "all we have in stock." Is it possible this offer was available for quite some time and many of the popular ones were already sold by the time this ad came out?

I too was surprised to see them available from another source. I also agree with your thoughts on the players available although I assume they printed more of the stars than the common players.

the m101-2s were actually available for several years, into at least 1916, as subscription inducements for TSN. The ad with the list is not routinely seen, however, and yes, the stars seem to have been scooped up more often and quickly than the others.
