Default 1928 Babe Ruth Candy Co. Cards--Current views on "fake" claims?

Much discussion of this some time ago but I haven't seen lately. They keep coming up at auctions--in graded form--and I wonder if the massive "reprint" questions have settled at yes, you can trust graded cards, but now raw? Auction house generally mention reprint problem but act confident about the graded ones....

Hey Greg
Not exactly sure of your question but in my experience there are some of these cards that can easily be seen to be real, some are easily seen to be fake, and others are very difficult. Then there are some that I don't think any very experienced person could be 100% on. That is my experience with them. I try to collect and trade the ones which are easy to tell they are real. I think most of the graded ones, by reputable companies, probably fall into the real-easy-to-tell class.

Greg,

Just my two cents, but I would not be surprised if a few reprints passed grading. Do I have concrete evidence? No. Is it possible a fake could pass? Yes.

I know it is Ruth, but outside of that, I have never understood the draw of this set. I know it's kind of like going to Nepal and wondering what the attraction was outside of Mt Everest.
