NOT a reprint. Looks good to me but not sure I would grade it as high as the lister.

If it's real, why would it be a private auction? All of his others are private as well.

Can't tell if it's a reprint or not but there are some serious red flags. He is oboviously well aware of PSA and their grading scale. There is no way he leaves thousands of dollars on the table if he thinks they would grade as well as he claims. Then there is the private auction that is rarely ever a good sign.

but if you look at all of his/her listed cards they do seem on the up and up. There are of course more knowledgeable T206 collectors here so maybe they can chime in. Anytime boys and girls.....

Edited to say: Or would they just rather lay in the weeds and pluck them at the end?

The card looks real to me, if its not then its a very good reprint. Red flags are the private auction and the sellers ability to grade the card (8) yet not have it encapsulated as such.

I'd bet the card has been altered somehow. The seller is an hour away from me; I'm moderately tempted to contact them and see if I can see it in person, loupe and blacklight in hand of course. If it was a Cobb, I'd be all over it!

Like Jay said, the seller is obviously aware of PSA, from his completed auctions. There's no way he fails to grade these cards unless there's something wrong with them. I was tempted to bid on a few of them since I'm just starting out, but I don't want to take the risk.

This guy is a total thief. Check out this pack of lies that he put out last week regarding a 1955 Topps Duke Snider PSA 8 (OC) card:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=55917&item=8817405091

Beyond the fact that he never mentions that the card has an OC qualifier, he has the balls to claim that the SMR is 14K - the value attributed to a PSA 9! You'd think he'd be just greedy enough to put out the value for an 8, ignoring the two level reduction due to the qualifier; but no, he needed to steal a few more bucks. Of course, the true SMR is $365 so he stole about $275 on this card. I emailed him about the lie and, of course, he ignored me. Total scum.

Edited to add: check out the top border on the Myers he has listed - ridiculously trimmed and he claims that it's a PSA 9. I'm sure there are tons of dealers that would sell ungraded HOF T206 cards in high condition...

I'm hardly an expert and can tell little looking at the card, but as of my viewing, with 1 day, 10 hours left to bid and 301 viewings of the card, the fact that the bidding is only at $76, would seem to indicate that the consensus is one of skepticism.

do you presume that the bidders were sight impaired and that's why they couldn't see the qualifier? Other than the fact that the lister omitted mentioning it everything else you have to say is right on.

The T206 Matty looks real to me, but it is definitely trimmed (which is why it isn't in a PSA or SGC holder). No way this particular seller leaves thousands on the table by not getting it graded.

And that '55 Topps Snider auction speaks volumes about this seller. That auction was not a case of simply identifying it as a PSA 8 and trying to ignore the OC qualifier: the seller actively hyped that it was a 8 with a $14K SMR price. Clearly he was trying to slide it past as an 8, hoping the bidding would go a little higher because some bidders simply do not focus too closely on the scan. And it worked.

No thanks....based on all factors mentioned, including the way the edges look, I give it a 99.999% chance of being trimmed. Those are not good odds.

Steve, I hear you but PC hit the nail on the head: some buyers just don't focus on the scan (obviously the case here). And this seller is such a greedy pig, he couldn't just list the SMR as a (false) value for an 8; he had to try 9. Disgraceful. Just because some buyers are idiots doesn't excuse what this lowlife did.

Guys, I agree with some of the comments here that this card has been trimmed. The top border looks kind of funny. It is also quite possible that the seller is unaware of this if it is the case, though I doubt it. I would avoid the card.

If somone wants to bid in a private auction by a dishonest
seller (see Duke Snider) that is his or her choice. Wouldn't
be mine.

If a seller uses less than honest pricing and grade descriptions
to try and artificially inflate the price of cards (for example
calling a PSA 8 O/C a high grade 8 and close to a 9, then using
the SMR for Mint 9 as the book value), what do you think he's using
private auctions for?

"Its interesting to see how the price on the card has doubled in the three hours since this post started!!!!!"

Can we infer then, that it's people in this forum bidding on this likely trimmed card??

I would say that its an accurate inference. The general consensus is that that card is authentic but trimmed. Prior to this thread, some perspective bidders were either not aware of the card or concerned that the card was not authentic. Both of those concerns are now minimized.

I however am not and will not be one of the bidders.

Brian E.

Prices in private eBay auctions are unreliable. You don't
know how many if any of the bids placed are legitimate,
and sellers often have private auctions specifically to hide
illegitimate bids.

Hilarious that anyone from this forum would bid on the card knowing that it has all the hallmarks of a trim job: private auction, other cards sold are clearly trimmed, false descriptions, failure to grade high end rare cards. I'll bet anyone who buys that card $1000 that the card comes back as a trim job from PSA.

Edited to add: David is no doubt correct. Only a moron would bid that card up -- and the only moron I can imagine that to be is the seller.

The seller may have the scan of a legitimate card, but not the card.

The situation is clearly identified as high risk. If I wanted the card, I wouldn't bid on this.

I would say its a reprint just for the fact that this seller bought

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8804525304

this reprint. We'll see if this resurfaces.

My personally opinion is to stay away, private bidders are never good. There are the possiblities that the ebay name has been hijacked or that the scans are of cards he does not own. Way too many red flags for me. There is always other auctions that are not so questionable. One plus is you can pay by Paypal to cover your arse.

I would not bid on any of his auctions,

Lee
