Default 173k for a 1976 Topps set in Lelands auction!!

Maybe its me but a 1976 Topps set that averages over $250 a card seems crazy. People want the best of the best and are willing to pay top $ I guess

I think it was a 1965 set not 1976.

There are many things I'd rather spend $173K on than a 1976 set of baseball cards, but each to his own.

My bad.. the 65 set was in Mile high auction. It sold for 175,000.

Babe Ruth bat for 212k. Or 1976 set for 175? Wow!

Consignor must've crapped himself on seeing that outcome.

I cannot fathom spending that kind of money on it, and it is my favorite baseball set from my childhood.

Default 1976 set

1976 set for 173k?..
The question that should be asked is how did the seller get 550 psa 10s?

So how do you speculate he got 550 PSA 10's?

From the link I posted.

"A total of 563 of the set's 660 cards (85%) have been graded a perfect PSA GEM MINT 10 including the Dennis Eckersley #98 rookie from the "Hill Collection."

That's the truth! It is a great year IMO. I recently purchased a very nice raw set. Some of the star cards need to be switched out because I want better centering, but my project will cost just a little less...

In fairness, the Bench card that year was terrific!

thats the thing...if you can get to the very very top of the set registry based on the best of the best at the present time you can get the money back on cards purchased today etc...but if you are number 3 or less etc....can lose major major money....

I have always liked both the 1976 Topps and OPC sets. Here are a couple uncut sheets. First sheet has 16 hall of Famer's second 4 plus Munson and Guidrey and Randolph rookies. And the bubble gum champ..most of the time they are displayed somewhere around my house.
