my newest pickup... a season pass to all American League parks in 1903.

I have my ticket. I am ready.
With the difficult part out of the way, all I need to do is figure out how to get back in time.

On April 30th.... I head to Hilltop Park to watch the first Yankee home game.

Then, head to Detroit and watch Sam Crawford.

Of course - I will head to Chicago - South Side Park to watch the White Sox play - - and will head to St. Louis too.

Then I head to Cleveland to see Napoleon.

And.... well....
since it is an all parks pass for 1903.....
I am thinking I will watch the first World Series games.

Does it get better than World Series 1 in Boston as Cy Young pitches to Honus Wagner?

Joe,

I love passes like yours that were issued during the era. They're often very ornate in design, and it's fun to see to whom they were issued. As part of the Barry Halper collection that was auctioned was a lot of Cleveland passes that were issued to famed photographed Louis Van Oeyen. I overpaid at the time but didn't mind too much. Here are a few (love the "& Lady" reference on the 1903 pass):

Here's a link to all of them (and a few others): http://www.freewebs.com/indianfever/seasonpasses.htm

That's pretty sweet Joe...ebay pickup?

My only pass...not as cool as the above, but probably just as rare.

Dan...

that is a great season pass.

I am really tempted to casually build a collection of season passes.

no.... I did not get this on eBay... a Google search more than a year ago turned this item up from an online merchant.....
and from that point (over a year) to now I have been tempted but have resisted.
I finally gave into temptation and made the purchase.

I couldn't be happier.

It's always great finding something through google. I've added a few items to my collection that way.

Hi Joe,

I specialize in Japanese baseball items and can read the ticket.

This ticket was for the following 3 games played on Oct 1st and 2nd during the 1932 tour.

The Royal Giants won 23 games and lost 1. These games were played at Takarazuka Stadium and were sponsored by the Osaka Mainichi Newspaper.

October 1st 2:00pm game Royal Giants defeated the Osaka Railway Team 5-3

October 2nd 12:00pm game Royal Giants defeated the Star Club 11-1

October 2nd 2:30pm game Royal Giants defeated the Kansai Mita Club 5-0

I have never seen a ticket from the 1927 or 1932 tour before.

Thanks. I lived there for 6 years and have been traveling there for 20 years.
I see many mistakes made by major auction houses in regards to Japanese items.

Reminds me of The Far Side cartoon where a retired Lone Ranger looks up Kemosabe in a language dictionary to discover it's Apache for "horse's ass."

I spent a couple of hours at Robert's table at the Chicago National last summer. He had a terrific array of Japanese baseball items, a niche in the hobby that heretofore was way off my radar. I came away with some things I really like. I dealt primarily with his colleague Gary Engel aka Gene who was very informative about the subject of baseball in Japan.

Robert K., Gary E. and customer, Chicago Nat'l. (Ryan C.'s Cuban table behind, making for an exotic corner of the show)

Joe D. Have a great time back in 1903 with that nifty AL pass. If you stop in 1927 say hi to my grandma for me.

Edited to get Gary E.'s name right. Sorry about that. My memory sucks.

Um. Wow. Vintage cards, scantily-clad Dutch people, uku-zillion penguins, authentic Polynesian maidens, surfing Obama and more at . .

Robert, have you ever run across any items pertaining to Guy Green's Japanese baseball team? I believe the team existed only in 1905 and was not nearly as successful as his Indian team so he disbanded it.

David-
Thank you for posting the photo from the National.
Actually that was Gary Engel working with me.

Dan-
I have not seen any Guy Green Japanese baseball items.
I never heard of this team, thank you for bringing it up.

Robert, not much is known about the team and the only mention I've ever found on the net is here:

http://www.nebraskahistory.org/publish/publicat/timeline/green_guy_w.htm

I've only seen one item pertaining to them and that was a letter/press release on Nebraska Indian's letterhead for a game in Illinois sent to a small town newspaper. Unfortunately I was outbid on the item about 4-5 years ago and I've not seen it pop up again.
