Ted,

I have no Ruth's to share unfortunately. Your 1949 Leaf, looks pack fresh, like you just pulled it the other day. What's the story behind the Goudey? Trimmed? Recolored? How did you acquire it?

James

Back in the 1940's, we flipped, scaled, and stuck our cards between the wheel spokes of our bikes....Whatever....but I never-ever did that
with my Babe Ruth, nor my Joe DiMaggio, Stan Musial, Ted Williams LEAF cards.

No story regarding the pretty-looking GOUDEY Ruth. It is simply appears to be a trimmed card. I acquired this card on a cash - trade deal.

This is not a shameless plug for anything presently for sale in the 1920 to 1949 B/S/T, and this is not mine, but...this is the best looking playing days Babe Ruth card I have ever seen. Simply gorgeous!

.393 is an incredibly impressive average for a home run slugger.

A shameless plug that this classic Goudey Ruth is NOT for sale.

The image on this card is actually from a 1923 first-week grand opening celebration of the new stadium, and would be the youngest version of Ruth depicted on a Goudey card.

Beats me! Focused on getting the field ready for the real game, I'd guess. I believe I have read that Ruth said something to Johnson (before they went out) along the lines of "give me something to hit" and Johnson assured him he would "do what he could."

6-12-1920 game used Yankees baseball. NY vs Cleveland. Not only was it Ruth’s first year in New York, it was shortly before Ray Chapman died. Chapman had 2 hits and Ruth an RBI. Most likely with this exact same ball.

It looks like the centerfielder is trying to see what Ruth is doing at the plate by shifting his weight to peer around the clueless stroller out there.

1916 World Series program scored partially for the winning game 5, with early Ruth in team photo, and a 1922 Ruth Eastern Exhibit.

This gang of happy baseball fans was photographed in 1923 when the House That Ruth Built was first opened for business. Purchased it from the late Jimmy Catanzaro a decade or so back.

And by popular demand . .

Available in LOTG's upcoming Kawika Has Bought the Farm and Uncle Sam Wants His Money auction.

Well, it's the 100th anniversary year of Yankee Stadium, the House That Ruth Built after the Yankees were kicked out of the Polo Grounds. Went to a game back in May vs the Rays, and there was no mention of that milestone whatsoever anywhere in new Yankee Stadium.

Here is a plaque I modified to reflect the history better than the way it was made, and stays on topic.

It's not 100% certain, but I believe a trailblazing Amelia Earhart ringer snuck in from the back row...

Spelling "Yastrzemski" correctly without needing to look it up since the 1980s.

Overpaying yesterday is simply underpaying tomorrow.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the little boy who's poking out from the side of The Bambino's head...

A bunch of awesome items in this thread. I especially like the Baseball Magazine premiums. You never see those for sale.

June 13, 2023 marked the 75th Anniversary of Babe Ruth’s last appearance at the Old Yankee Stadium. This was immortalized by Nat Fein’s Pulitzer Prize winning photo “ Babe Bows Out”. A week prior he presented a copy of his autobiography to Yale Captain George H. W. Bush. The last game at Old Yankee Stadium was in 2008 when it was 85 years old.
