Default Does anyone recognize this left-handed batter?

Posted By: john

Bought this neato item at the Reading show today. It is a 3x5 photo inserted in a paper frame. Is the player familiar to anyone? He could just be a local yoal, but, there is always the chance....

Thanks!

John

Believe it or not that face looks familiar....I need to give this one some more thought....though I think who I am thinking about was right handed...

Why am I thinking Bob O'Farrell?

On second thought, perhaps not O'Farrell. Bob did play for both the Cards and Giants, and my mind is telling me to think in that direction. A teammate of O'Farrell's on one of those two clubs.

Walter Roettger? No.

Heinie Groh minus the famed bottle bat?

This is killing me. I know this player.

My initial reaction was Crawford, but I don't ever think I've seen a picture of him doing anything except grimacing

That uni, I'm leaning 1909ish Stankees -if pro at all.

Facial comp using high-res .tiff images of T200's may be an option for you. Great photo.

My immediate reaction was James Thompson "Doc" Prothro but as I recall he was a right handed batter but maybe he was goofing off with the left-handed grip and that caused the grimmace?

I went through the t200 pics but could not find a decent match (although Crawford still looked like a candidate).

Anyone else? This is driving me CRAZY!

On the bottom right of the picture there appears to be some type of writing. Has anyone examined that area with a magnifier?
