Default T206 Team Sets

Posted By: Mike M

I need some help. I'm going to try and put the Browns team set together. This got me wondering, of the Major League teams, disregarding the 7 rule breakers, which team sets are the easiest and most difficult to put together?

Thanks for your help,

Mike

Well, Detroit. Duh. lol. Just kidding. But I target Detroit players, and I swear it seems like half the world has the same idea sometimes, although the same names do surface fairly regularly (Hi Joe, Joe and Joe!).

I would imagine that the hardest sets would be those that contain high dollar cards (T206 Pittsburg), and if money is no object, then the rare cards (33 Lajoie). And after that, my thinking is that it would be a minor league team in a non minor league set, or a long defunct team. I guess my logic is that as the teams faded and maybe old fans and loyalty as well, maybe these were more susceptable to getting dumped.

But I don't have enough knowledge to name a particular team for any particular reason.

The Browns are a good choice for one of the easiest. There are other good choices too, like the Highlanders. Some of the tuff ones include those that Joann mentioned and the Naps with Joss, Lajoie and Young; as well as the Red Sox with Wood, Speaker and Cicotte.

But if you just wanted one really big guy for interest, Id go with the Senators. However, t206 is not my set, so some of those experienced with this may offer you better insight.

Hey Gilbert, You would have an exclusive if there is a Wood T206, it would be worth millions.

I would have to say the Boston Brevaes, not many players and no HOFers, but agree on the Highlanders, other than the Chase cards nothing else signifigant.

Lee: at no time did I intend to infer that I have any idea about t206s. I do believe that Wood was on the team during issuance of the set though. If he was left out of the set, I guess he did not approve of tobacco either.

Sheesh. They left out Jackson and Wood. But at least with Jackson, he did not do much until the set was almost out of production. Maybe that is the case with Wood as well. Bad calls.

Edited to add: Don't you realize that I am a very sensitive person? Singling me out for your criticism, while ignoring that do others could cause me to feel offended. Is it just because I defend the Sudanese? Or is it something else ... a deeper, more pervasive feeling. Or is it a gender thing? Why not comment on Joann's citing the '33 Lajoie in response to the question posed? I mean really: what do you have against the Sudanese?

I was able to put a T206 Cardinals team set together in a fair amount of time.

Mike,

By "Easy" I'm presuming money isn't the question. If that's so, then I second Gil. The Washington set is fairly easy to find. Only four tougher (= "higher dollar") cards--G. Brown, Johnson (portrait), Johnson (pitching), and Elberfeld (fielding). It seems like there's almost always one of the Johnsons on eBay; there's a G. Brown about once a month; and an Elberfeld about every six weeks or so.

I'm a Washington collector, and 206s were what got me into this in the first place. Took me about two weeks to pick up everything except the Elberfeld.

Bill
