Default Art question for those in the know

My mother had a painting, I always thought it was a photo, of a cat on her wall my whole life, she passed on Christmas '16, I had moved my family of 6 in with her to provide care. She let me know I was to take it home, never happened. I find my self back in my parents home, this time caring for my father. The cat picture came up again. Again I was told to take it home. So finally ask pops what's with this cat? Says "Hell, I don't know anything bout it. She had it when we married, aunt gave to her."

So decide to look into this cat. Spent a good chunk of my day searching, mind you I'm not art minded. Nothing. Painting is signed L. Burroughs. I would appreciate anything or suggestions.

Thanks
Craig

PS. Sorry about the dusty frame and please no cracks on my reflection in suspenders. I'm bringing 'em back.
