Default Crazy video of Doc Ellis

I was born in June 1970, so I found this video to be quite entertaining-

Dock Ellis had a reputation of being a bit of a flake. He was the best starting pitcher on the 1971 Pirates when they won the World Series. I believe they were the first team to field 9 black or hispanic players as starters in a game.CN

That video is hilarious, Johnny. Here's another one from YouTube. It's a tribute to Dock Ellis by a singer-songwriter named Todd Snider ...

By the way, I've always had a soft spot for Ellis. One day when I was a kid, and friend and I was lurking around a hotel in Anaheim, CA looking for autographs when the Yankees were staying there. A security guard caught us and was starting to read us the riot act when Dock showed up and said with a seriously menacing voice, "Don't mess with these guys, they're my friends."

I just googled Dock Ellis and after reading about his LSD No-hitter I also read about him hitting the first 3 Reds in a game and trying to hit a 4th until being removed by Danny Murtagh. He was one of those characters that the game misses in my opinion. CN
