Default Bye, Bobby.

I've got his rookie card---1969--I was already too old
to play basaeball. Bet he would've liked to see Barry hit 8 more...

I was never a huge Bobby Murcer fan (he just wasn't The Mick), so when the Yankees sent him packing for Bobby Bonds for the 1975 season I thought the Yankees had gotten themselves a steal (pun intended).

Bonds had a typical year for him (he could hit home runs, steal bases and strike out in the American League just the way he did in the National) and he even outfielded Yankeee stalwart Roy White. Bonds was one of those guys who never got cheated on a swing and created the same kind of buzz in the stands that Reggie did a couple of years later.

I'm not sure whether it was The Boss or Billy Marin (or both) that did him in, but when he left after only one season I thought the Yankees had made a mistake.

Bonds played well for the Yanks -- going 30-30 despite losing a bunch of games to injury -- but he was traded for Mickey Rivers and Ed Figueroa.

That trade did well for the Yanks both players were tremendous cogs in the machine that won the Yanks 2 of 3 World Series.

So...not a bad trade for the Yanks....

Those two guys both played important roles in helping the Yankees win pennants the next two years and Rivers was as entertaining in his own way as Bonds was.
