Default Player's checklists

The Josh Gibson post that's curently being discussed got me thinking. Is there a FREE website, or at least fairly inexpensive, that lists all the cards for Hall of Famers? My goal is to get the earliest known card of each HOFer, but for my being a novice, I don't know how far to go back with some of these guys. For example, I have a 33 Goudey Leo Durocher, but I can't find an earlier version of that HOFer. Any help would be great!

Jimi,
That website should give you everything that you need to know. As I was told it will be up to you to decide what is a "card." Most of the early "cards" of players are exhibits and oddball issues. Where you take it is up to you.

Bryan is right. Glad he read my earlier post!

For instance, check this out:

http://www.oldcardboard.com/m/m101-2/m101-2.asp?cardsetID=962

Does a big old picture that come in a newspaper like this count as a card??

Not many of us think so....

so study the "Old Cardboard" gallery and learn about each set before you start!

the help! I fogured I'd get a reply telling me I needed to pay Beckett some money to get their checklists. Glad to hear someone did some research on these!! Big help! I'll probably only collect their earliest "card", not postcards or pictures, unless that is all that is available. Looks like I'll have to do quite a bit of research myself to find out! This'll be a daunting task, but it's looking good to me already! I have 18 RCs already, and I just started this project last month. I'm satisfied with the progress! It's even harder to do when I have so many other cards I want, too!

Hal is the man when it comes to rookie cards. I hope I have the right person here Hal But correct me if I am wrong but this is the exact tasks that you are doing, right? I'm sure that you have plenty of knowledge on the subject of rookie cards and what YOUR thoughts on as to what is a ROOKIE card and what is not.

So many problems with Hals collection! How could you have a 1985 Clemens and consider it his rookie? How about the Bender card,he does have a 150 series card which was obviously made before the 350 series? and i also take great pride in knowing i have a higher grade Jimmy Collins than you

Other than that its the greatest collection of hall of fame rookies there is....once he gets that Brouthers i told him about today that is

so many mistakes.....

One HUGE mistake...

I started collecting them about 20 years too late!!!

I could have had every vintage card for $20 if I had started back in the old days.

Hal - Clearly a landmark assembly! Congrats.

But there are going to be questions about your choices. For example, do you not consider Exhibits nor Maple Crispettes as cards (for application to Bottomley)?

Gilbert:

You act as if there has been a Maple Crispette up for bid on EBay at any time over the past decade!!

You find me one... and it will definitely fit into my collection.

There are a LOT of rookie cards that I still don't have.

I need a 1948 leaf Satchell Paige... but the one in the new Mastro auction has the 1949 copyright date on back.

A lot of other as well.

What fun would it be if I were finished????

And NO...

I do not consider Exhibits to be "cards."

Hal, I'll trade you my Maple Crispette Bottomley for Andy's Ruffing if you win it.

Gee Hal,

I did not imagine that I picked up on one of the only two chinks in your armor. A Bottomley and a Paige. Sheesh.

But as far as "what fun would it be if I were finished"? You would have the fun of extending the set into new areas.

Its only cards.
