Any reason that the 1914 Cracker Jack set is so much scarcer than the 1915?

The 1914's only came in boxes of Cracker Jack, while the 1915's could be ordered as a complete set directly from the company.

Were the 1914 cards directly put into the boxes without any covering? Does that account for the stains?

Both appear stained, but if you ordered the 15's from the factory they would be spotless, hence more clean ones survived. All 14's were in contact with the caramel.

The fact that factory sets were available to the consurmer in 1915 allows for a good number of high grade specimens from that year.

It also seems as though there have been a couple of factory 1914 sets to hit the market, one very recently that supposedly sold for $800,000 or some insane number. I would presume that these pristine 1914 cards were leftovers from the year before and never made it into the packs.

The main reason for the large number of high grade 15s is due to a huge find of these cards in the late 80s that were in very high grade.

I like to sit outside drink beer and yell at people. If I did this at home I would be arrested, so I go to baseball games and fit right in.
