Default Died on the Field

I recently had one of my scorebooks returned that was on loan at the Negro League Museum here in Kansas City. The scorebook was for a Norwich, NY team that appears to have been a very good regional team at the time. Anyway, the interesting part is that the scorebook contains a couple of games in which they played the Cuban Giants. I finally took some time to do a small bit of research on some of the players and found an interesting article about the giant's catcher, John Garcia, and his demise during a game against a Jamaica, NY team in late 1904 -

As far as I've been able to find out, this information does not show up on any bio's or other articles. Here's a shot of the game in which the Norwich team played the Giants in late August of 1904, just over a month before Garcia died.

The story was told in "Baseball Babylon", by Dan Gutman, published in 1992.
