Where do you see the pre-war market over the next 5 years?

The market is pretty hot right now, it seems like more and more people want vintage cards these days. The natural result of this noticable increase in demand is that supply is decreasing (where are all the nice caramel cards?) and prices are going sky high.

My question: do you think that this recent trend will continue, or will it plateau in the near future? Do you think now is a good time to invest in vintage, or is the market at its peak right now?

The caramel cards have REALLY dried up lately. The supply is getting scarcer and the demand is getting stronger as collectors begin completing their tobacco card sets and move on to other pastures. I have also noticed the median age for collectors of pre-war cards getting younger and younger, which is a good sign for the future of this part of the hobby. I think the future of the pre-war cards for the next five years is very strong as long as you younger guys are there to carry the torch

I'm pretty heavily into 19th century stuff now. It just keeps getting more and more expensive. And what happened to the Mayos? Mastro didn't have ONE. So, what's going to happen? How should I know? There's a limited supply of cards and photo from 100 years ago, but more and more people seem to be getting interested in them. It looks a bit bleak for collectors, in some ways. Especially when the economy is down, and people who are losing interest think this isn't the best time to sell.

If Mastro thinks I'm going to pay more than 3K for "A Desperate Slide," he can go on thinking...

I don't know about you, but after last nite
on Mastro I'm going to be eating fish sticks
for the next five years. What a feeding frenzy.
The sharks were out there man!

A) if its not unique its going down next year
(example Cobb green backs)

B) if it is unique the demand is going to remain
high (example Mastro rare Cobb/Milan lot)

C) demand for high grade is still strong
(example Mastro Sport Kings lot)

Those three SGC40 green Cobbs went REAL low last night, especially compared to the SCD 2003 guide prices for that particular Cobb, which now make even less sense than before.
