Default E- Card Pricing

Posted By: Mike

What is the best price guide for the E-Cards ? I recently went to buy a few cards on ebay and noticed a very big difference in prices using the PSA SMR and the 2009 Standard Catalog. Need help this is a new area for me. Thanks.

This is only one example from E 90-1 Jennings

For example: NM EX VG

PSA SMR 4500 1200 415

Standard Catalog 575 265 150

Mike,

You're going to hear a lot of the same responses. Population reports and competition among collectors trying to complete the "best" graded set can drive the upper end (higher graded) material into the stratosphere.

The Standard Catalog is out to lunch on this one! SMR is closer. They have finally started to adjust their caramel pricing, but they are still low in my opinion.

What Jim said.....it is a difficult market but almost any e90-1, common or not, in a true 7 holder...will go for way over $600, imo...probably multiples of that for almost any card........commons too....

The Standard Catalog is not too far off in the lower 2 prices, in my estimation.

Their NM price is way short. The pop reports aren't right, cards are broken out. Some are regraded. Some guys chase high grade cards to get their names in the listings, they're not exactly collecting cards in doing that, but buying recognition. So for that reason I think the reports are unrealistically high for a NM card's true value.

Still, it depends on which E cards you're talking about. There aren't any collectors attempting to complete a NM slabbed set of all of the ZeeNuts. E90-1s mostly went straight into the hands of a caramel chewing kid. The cards got dirty, folded, jammed into a pocket... Almost all of them went through kiddyhell. So I do think that the Standard Catalog should have a greater than normal differential between EX and NM.

I just noticed that SMR online lowered prices on E93s this month on the heals of some record setting private sales. Who knows how they make their decisions? They had recently started to approach reality, then just took a giant step backwards. Arrggghhh.

Are you saying you think a caramel card in a 7 holder is valued unrealistically high at $575? I would agree with you on some of them not being in the $4500 range.....

"reports" = SMR... doesn't that R stand for Report?

I think the Standard Catalog has too low a price for NM E90-1s.

I don't know what SMRs have, but if $4500 is what they have, I think that is too high. It is nuts. And someone paying that for one is partly paying for plastic, and partly paying to have their name and their set rated by the slabbing companies.

Realistically, the Catalog is way too low... and the SMR's a too high, but I don't think that half way in between the two is right. It may well be slightly higher than half way.

OK...I agree. When you said "reports" I thought you were speaking of both SMR AND SCD......I guess I wasn't thinking about the R standing for that word....but I do agree with you on your assessment...best regards

Frank,
Good luck finding a NM E90-1 Jennings for $4500. It may not be worth it to you, but there are plenty of people for whom it would be worth much more than that. As you know, a card is worth what somebody will pay for it. There are plenty of people who will pay up for a NM HOF from any of the major E sets. It is not everybody's thing, but there is a market for that, like it or not. Wishing there wasn't does not make it go away. The hobby has changed.

I've got a Jennings. He's about a 0.7

Well he's not quite that bad, but almost.

Peace, Leon.

Jim, I don't doubt that someone out there would pay $4500 for a near mint E90-1 Jennings. But I think it is nuts, and I don't think that many would sell at that price.

The SCD is crazy, too. Maybe 3k is about right... I think that might be close to a real value for the card (not including plastic slab and set listing hoopla).

A caramel card HOF'er in a 7 holder can only have it's value determined in auction....and then there are so many other factors to consider it would be hard to nail down an exact value, even after an auction of one ended. I am not too surprised when those kind of cards go for $3500 or $13,500. We don't need to go into the whole "registry" collecting thing. We are well aware of everyone's views on the subject. happy.gif
..Registry collectors might even have more fun than the rest of us...who knows? As long as we (all) have fun then that is what counts....take care

It may not matter to anyone but me (unless someone else is quietly working on an E94 master set) but some of the color/player combinations of players in the E94 set are exceedingly scarce and seem to never pop up. If it is a Speaker or a Cobb or a Wagner, the sky is going to be the limit anyway but some of the so-called "commons" are almost impossible to find in certain colors. sad.gif leon's right, when these pop up in auctions, you just never know who is tuned in to the scarcity and people go away muttering when a PSA 2 goes for a bundle.

first off, there is only one PSA 7, and zero SGC 80 in existence for Jennings, so the price for a NM is theoretical....the e90-1 as we know is a very difficult issue in high grade....

secondly, the last PSA 5 sales were $1800 and $1000...sgc 60 was $1900.....so these are too low in both catalogs....WAY too low in standard catalog...

thirdly however, the last five PSA 3 sales were in the $150-200 range, so SMR is off and standard is closer....

i have been asking PSA to get rid of the PSA 9 and 8 listings for the e90-1 since none exist! i asked them to replace these with PSA 3 and 2 and 1 since that is where more exist...

sure its pretty to have LARGE numbers in the PSA 9 column, but its not practical or useful....
