Default OOOPS!! NEVER MIND- NOLAN RYAN FANS: Anyone on Facebook Want to Become a Stats Hero?

Forgive me- I'm not on facebook.

There is an article on ESPN online stating that Chris Sale just recorded his 1500th strikeout quicker than anyone in MLB history (1,290 innings), breaking Kerry Wood's record of 1,300 innings.

Unless, my math and research is in error, Nolan Ryan record his 1,500th on June 27, 1974 and he was at 1,264.2 innings.

If I'm correct, how quickly they forget.

I did not, however, check Randy Johnson's pace to 1500.

I just don't like it when someone makes errors on baseball stats (and I sure hope I'm not doing that myself).

...and NOW, this falsehood is being repeated on Mike & Mike!

Someone with FB access help, please!

Your effort is appreciated in advance.

FYI: This was the form of my research:

Went to Nolan's player page on BBR; determined which season he reached 1,500 (1974), then started with his running career totals through the previous season - 1,120 Innings; 1,342 Ks.

Next, I pulled up the 1974 Game Logs and ran side-by-side running totals for innings pitched and strikeouts.

I determined that June 27, 1974 (ironically vs. the Rangers) was the date he reached 1,500.

I then pulled up the box score for that game, scrolled down to the play-by-play and saw that he struck out the second batter he faced to reach 1,500 at 1,264.2 innings.

This should be an easy stats for a network to verify. I believe ESPN shows Ryan with out 1380 innings or so.

.

I got that it took Nolan Ryan 1385.2 IP to get to 1500

1966 - IP 3 / SO 6
1968 - IP 134 / SO 133
1969 - IP 89.1 / SO 92
1970 - IP 131.2 / SO 125
1971 - IP 152 / SO 137
1972 - IP 284 / SO 329
1973 - IP 326 / SO 383

1966-1973 TOTALS - IP 1120 / SO 1205

295 SO were needed in 1974. He ended the game on August 25th with 295 SO for the season. Ryan had pitched 257 innings going into that game. He did it in the 8th inning on the second batter making it the 265.2 inning pitched in 1974. This makes it his 1385.2 inning.

I see what I did - counted 1971's K total twice.

Never commit to facts you think you've found late at night.

It sometimes takes a second set of eyes to discover errors...I asked my dog to double-check my math, but that's not one of his skills.

Thanks guys!
