Default 1968 Detroit Free Press Bubblegumless Cards

I remember seeing these at shows when I was a kid and always thought they were neat. All the ones I remember seeing were in pretty bad shape. I was stoked when I pulled this out of storage.

Issued in thee issues of The Detroit Free Press.(I think) The front and the back of the cards are on different sheets in the same issue. The original intent was to cut them out and glue them together to have a "card" of the player.

I love finding hidden surprises in what was my father's diverse collection.

I was a kid in Michigan when these came out and my parents subscribed to the Free Press. They gave me one of these newspaper sections and I cut out all the pictures and put a piece of cardboard in between and pasted them together. I still have them somewhere. I only did it for one of the three weeks, though, so my collection of these is still not complete, though I have bought a few more over the years.

Nice Issue: I sold a set last year in same condition, If I remember correctly I bought it at a NYC show from a Detroit dealer who had a stack of them kinda next to his table only a few bucks and very nice. Problem was just like OP the went into a plastic container and sat there for a few decades because just to hard to display. In 1948 Philadelphia Bulletin issued similar cards fronts and backs that kids could put together a square version like these and a Die-cut version that was kinda nice.
