Default Dimaggio HOF postcard - Heritage Auction

Isn't the Dimaggio auto in this auction a secretarial or signed by Joe's sister? Doesn't look right to me. Am I mistaken?

Not an expert on Dimaggio, but that "D" is off in my opinion

The "loop" at the end of the signature is usually the tell tale sign that Sis signed it, She also signed for brother Dom but not as much as for Joe.

Jim,

Not sure what you mean by the 'loop', but do you think this is legit? I was going to contact the auction house, but didn't want to make a fool of myself.

Thanks.

You Can judge for yourself but have attached an image of one signed by his sister, note the loop at the end of the "o" in Dimaggio. Right below it is a facsimile (on the photo) of his real autograph, Vintage style but real. Do you see the difference ? He usually ended his name with a dot

I think he was confused by the word "loop". What Jim is referring to is the tappering off of the pen after the "o" is completed. Joe D did not taper off like that at the end of his signature.

He is also right on the "." above the "o", that is one thing non-Joe examples never have

The "dot above the o" is the dot of the "i."

This was shown on another website (link below) about a week ago and I opined then that it was penned by Joe D's sister.

I sent them an email. I think it is pretty sad that they have a clearly forged Joe D autograph for auction.

Its not FORGED , it was clearly an honest mistake. Those are not SAD. What is sad is when people don't have food to eat when they are hungry or a roof over their heads when it rains , THATS SAD . Autographs ?

Any TPA worth his salt knows about Joe D ghost signed signatures.
So my question is did any TPA actually look at this autograph or did Heritage just decide not to bother to have it examined?
My guess would be the latter.

In between the noted TPA's asking women to dance I used to think that the TPA's did at least look at the autographs, but maybe not? .

OK. So using the words forged or 'sad' wasn't the best terminology, but that is not the point. The point is that one of the biggest and most respected auctions houses is auctioning a ghost signed autograph. Hopefully, they will pull the postcard from the auction.
