Default Dealers scouring through registry sets

what is the general opinion out there when dealers scour through your registry set and contact you for a card for sale or auction listing ect...? i have had a couple of ebay sellers do it to bring attention to their card, i have also had contact for me to place my item with them if it doesn't sell on ebay.

If it's a relatively easy to find card, then it's in bad taste. But if the card is somewhat tough then I'd think it would be appreciated. Actually, it would be nice if the Registry offered a search option so you could see who needed or had a particular card.

If the person on the registry has the email icon
up that means they want to be emailed.

If the email Icon is not up and a seller somehow
emails then I'd find that in poor taste.

I think that is the reason for the email icon.

I have no problem when dealers/sellers/collectors
notify me of items that they have and that I might want.

I simply hit the delete tab if I am not interested.

just in case it's something I've been looking for or want more badly than other things at the time...
agreed with other posts, violating privacy is not cool, otherwise I think it's a pretty clever way to maintain/improve your visibility as a seller

of course, getting those emails now just feels like teasing, since available funds are so low that my buying has started to really dry up

Sleazy.

You have a mailbox out by the road. Are you saying, "Go on everybody, send me your guano."

I have a set on the SGC registry and have been contacted by a few private sellers with cards for sale, but I have mixed emotions about the ease of getting information.... were does it stop? or has that ship already sailed? I also wondered and wanted to ask everyone what their thoughts were of even being on the registries. It has certainly been handy letting others know what you need by refering them to the registry and has resulted in opportunities to make pick ups. On SGC it seems you have full control over your identity and e-mail address or do you? Would they offer an email address list to dealers that would include everyone even if your email address was not made public on your page? I enjoy the registries they have added greatly to our hobby.....................

GO YARD

I'm not a registry person, but it might be a neat feature if there was a way to flag certain cards in whatever set you are working on as "actively searching for" or something like that so if someone had a card that you had prioritized it would be easy for them contact you with something you really want instead of having someone trying to sell you a fairly common card.

This thread doesn't make sense to me...

If you don't want to be contacted, then don't enter your email address in there. It is that simple.

I've had an email address on the PSA registry for 6 years, and but I have been contacted once maybe twice.

Ridiculous.

I guess you never got any junk mail in your road side mailbox.

I have around 15 sets registered on PSA and have been getting "Cards for your PSA sets..." emails for several months (have never "signed up" for any of them).

However, I have around 5 sets registered with SGC and have yet to receive a "Cards for your SGC sets..." email.

There have been a few collectors contact me about PSA cards for sale or eBay auction and none for SGC cards for sale or auction.

Thinking about removing my PSA sets, not really interested maintaining them (all newer sets).

ChiSoxFan

Looking for T206 in Poor to Good condition.

To me it is an non-issue. I have been contacted more by other collectors wanting to buy or trade for a listed card than I have by a seller. Marketing makes the world go round.

I'm with Michael. Why include your e-mail address if you don't want to be contacted? If you're getting lots of unwanted e-mails, remove your addresss. If you're not getting that many, clicking the "delete" button isn't that tough.

to quote Nancy Reagan "just say no" if you're not interested (I don't see it as a big deal)

With 400-plus sets on the PSA Set Registry I get e-mails virtually every day. I love it and encourage it. Most are of no interest but every once in a while its a home run. Certainly better than the hated ebay.

Generally speaking, I really dont like it because 99% of them are telling me of some auction somewhere. If it was an e-mail asking if I wanted a certain card at a price I wouldn't mind so much, but I dont need to know about all the auctions going on that include one card in a set I am currently working on.

Mostly, I just dont like unsolicited e-mails, I get enough e-mails from people I actually like and from work that I dont need people hyping their auctions via personal e-mail.
