Default 1938 Churchman Boxing FAKES?

Anybody know much about these 1938 churchmans tobacco issues? I know theyre fairly plentiful, but was there ever a mass run of reprints? Looks like some are sepia and other b&w...

I'm new to boxing cards mostly, but i tend to like this set the best, next to 51 topps ringside. There are a lot of nice examples out there, but i also fear fakes and reprints. Any advice? Thanks in advance!

There's legitimate reproductions of this and nearly every other British set out there. Usually they are fairly high quality but they are also almost always identified on the back pretty clearly as "reproductions".

The backs are also often printed in a different color then the backs of the originals.

I don't know the set, but, from the printing, I assume the one pictured is original.

There are reprints not indentified as reprints on the cards.

Here is a listing with one example of a reprint and an original.

It states on the bottom of the card on the right that it is an “Authorised Reproduction by Victoria Gallery”.
I can’t ever remember seeing a fake or a reprint of this set.

I've never seen a reprint. Keep in mind, this set was printed and distributed over the course of about 3 years. There are a few boxers whose back bios have different info and reference events that occurred in '39 and maybe '40. I don't remember which fighters they are. So it wouldn't surprise me if there were slight differences in the ink that was used over that period of time.

Default Churchman' Boxing Personalities

The card shown looks original to me. The official reprints have brown writing to the reverse. The cards can vary in colour. You will also find cards with / without a machine mark to the front / reverse and also cards which were never packed into cigarettes and these tend to be near mint. Back in the day certain dealers bought up all the remainders which never reached the production line. Given that originals are relatively easily obtained I don't personally see the point of reproducing them. The U.K. Reprints were produced to meet the demand for framed sets of 50 cards in the 1980/90's along with various other sets. If you want any odds let me know. I can supply whatever you need and I am always willing to trade
