You must work out a lot if you can hold the current paper version while sitting on the toilet.

Guys,
I just talked to my boss and we decided to give all Network 54 Vintage Card Message Board members a $10 discount on this disc.
$20 ... Can't beat that!
We are creating a discount code right now and I will post it as soon as I hear what it is.

Thanks,

"The Ultimate Guide to Vintage Baseball Cards!"

No.....The PENultimate Guide to.....

I use to carry the SCD big book to shows, but stopped due to it's weight. Those chiropractor bills were getting expensive. At first, I thought it would be great to use this disc at shows, but then I realized my laptop is probably heavier than the big book.

But still a great idea, and for $20 it's worth a looksy.

Mike

Just a thought - what about printing the vintage section and putting all the post 1980 stuff on the CD? My faulty memory seems to recollect that's what was discussed earlier.

Alan that wasn't tacky or anything. With my last name being Schwartz you just made me decide to submit documents to the court to change it to Smith.

Yes, Chris, of course $20 is worth it (didn't you see the multiple . Does the guide have many images ? How much effort to produce a CD or DVD that would have, perhaps, small images linked with the text ?????

I can just about guarantee there are no team designations (other than in the cases of well-known variation cards) on the CD. Reason is that the team information was never captured in the original data base (which was begun around 1981) from which the catalog has grown.

When the data base was conceived, the simple fact is nobody thought team indications were needed. Back then complete set collecting was the norm, and team-set collectors were few and far between. Years later, we did add a field for "Team" to the data base, but did not have the resources to go back and retroactively fill it in for the (then) tens of thousands of cards already included. Also, by the early 1990s the "new" card issues had exploded to such an extent that the data was being input on the basis of card company press releases of checklists, rather than card-by-card examination, and the card companies generally didn't include the team designation in their press information.

Today, if I was in charge of the Standard Catalog data base, I'd go back and try to add that team info. With a resouce like this forum (which, remember, didn't exist then), I think team designations could be relatively easily compiled based on the collections of this forum's participants; at least for 90% of the vintage sets.

After the company (Krause) passed from the hands of collectors to those of the bean counters, some brilliant "suit" from management would suggest we do mini-catalogs of all Yankees or Red Sox cards. They always dropped the notion once it was explained it would cost some money to put the data together.

Ordered mine yesterday, next time around try to include the PCL issues, 1909,1910,1911,212 Obak's, Zeenut's at lease from 1911 thru 1920, if not the entire run, Home Run Kisses, Biscuts, E99's, E100's etc. A lot of us collect these and they are very hard to deal with in the catalog.
