Default Speaking of Record Prices - T206 Re-Backed, As Advertised That Way?

A few fellow forum members and myself were discussing these cards/auctions very recently. There is nothing wrong with selling Re-Backed cards that are advertised as such. However, these posed a few questions especially with this seller's location in mind, whomever they might be? Hmmm...rebacked T206s coming from CA.....

While there may be nothing wrong with selling re-backed cards that are advertised as such, I feel these may still be listed in a misleading fashion. The way the listings are phrased, such as "T206 Nap Lajoie Good RE - backed with Polar Bear back," makes it appear to some buyers as though the condition is "Good RE," whatever that might mean, or just that the RE means something else, not that the card is re-backed with a different back. It looks to me like the seller is trying to technically comply with the rules but still hopes to mislead a buyer.

I also think the idea of re-backing cards is pretty dubious, since the only real reason I can think to do so would be to trick someone somewhere down the line. So even if these sales are properly disclosed (which I don't think they are), the seller may in some way be facilitating fraud if the buyer goes and sells the re-backed cards to someone else.

Sad to see a couple of the winners were low feedback numbers and most likely new collectors of T206's.

New T206 collector here. I looked at these early and considered bidding. It wasn’t until I looked a little closer that I saw the title trick that pbspelly pointed out. I think you are spot on with your analysis - the seller is intentionally misleading buyers, who will either get burned down the road or sell an altered card back into the market.

Always need to look for those red flags.

If the seller is who a few of us think he is, he has a very dubious and long past.

Those kind of cards can lead to nothing good.

Don't buy from a seller who says a rebacked card gets a grade of Vg.

Yes, seems intentionally deceptiive. First time spelling in the history of the English language of "RE- backed," and I checked back as far as Beowolf.
