He wrecked a pretty nice antique Worth baseball with this one.

Nah. The ball is a "replica," too.

How can you tell? If he's replicating balls why put a major league hall of famer signature on a replica Worth Ball? Why not go all out and put it on a Spalding or Reach?

I was basing my statement on other replicas I have seen. But I believe you're correct, Dan--it probably is a genuine Worth ball.

It's not, definitely fake. It's a pitching machine ball, he's re-stamping them with off brand logo's. Check his feedback, he buys them in the dozens.

I like the fact that he initialed and dated the ball himself where it wont affect the look.

Interesting...I didn't know anyone out there was making red/blue stitch baseballs. I wonder how he roughs them up?

I still think that Worth ball is an actual vintage Worth ball...if you go to the trouble of making repro autograph balls why a Worth baseball instead of Spalding or Reach? He's not trying to fool anyone so why not make it with an actual major league brand?

As Brandon pointed out, you can look at his feedback and see where he purchased at least a dozen (probably more, but they are being sold by the dozen) pitching machine balls with red/blue stitching on at least 3 separate occasions:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/180870303358
http://www.ebay.com/itm/180847616426
http://www.ebay.com/itm/150751225241

As for why Worth instead of Spalding or Reach, I have no idea. Maybe to differentiate himself from the other sellers foisting all their replica baseballs on the collecting public?

I also find it interesting that he mentions in every listing how he marks the balls with his initials and date to prevent fraud, yet doesn't show them in any of the photos (unless they're so "unobtrusive" that I'm overlooking them?)

In this past auction it did show his initials and date.

Dan, I'm sorry but there's no way that ball is real. I'm surprised there's this much debate over it, especially after seeing his feedback with the machine baseballs with red & black stitching. It's not hard to throw a ball in the dirt a little to make it look older.
