That Kaline looks sharp. I may not be far behind you. I love the 56's and may do the HOFers.

Oh yeah, very nice '56s. Great little collection to do. I have the Koufax and Mays so far, but will definitely be picking up more over time as I have the Snider and Clemente on my short list. Thanks for showing those.

Come join the fun! I wanted to put together nice 4-6 graded cards with nice centering and eye appeal. I feel good about the cards I've acquired. Although I'll need to upgrade the Jackie at some point as the picture isn't as nice as I want. This is a set that has all the things that appeal to me: Hall of Famers, great layout, not too difficult to find (I lose focus too easy if I can't find what I want) and reasonable prices. I paid just under $300 for my Mantle in PSA 3 and with eBay bucks about $220 for the Williams. All in all not bad imho

That's surprising that they don't have one for him already.

Nice group, including the one showing Mantle hitting a clutch home run while at the same time missing a Gibson fast ball

Default Nice

Nice 52 hi, good centering. Like the mid-grade Mantles posted earlier, wish I could find decent vintage like those 65s!!!! Probably the highest grade Clemente I will ever own:

Not vying for Pickup of the Month, but this is still an important card for my Top 100 display, in progress. 81 down...19 to go!

Shame on you, Al, for questioning the eyesight of the highly objective photo editors at the T.C.G.C.

Default A late January pickup

A fellow board member saw one of my previous Joe Torre pictures, and so he offered this trade (incidentally, that was my first trade with a total stranger).

A 1950-70s (guessing ~1966?) Van Heusen Joe Torre. In my Standard Catalog (2009 version), this card is not even known to exist in the checklist. I was very excited to add it to the Joe Torre collection!!!!!

Congratulations on your progress and be sure to let us see the cards framed if you still decide to go in that direction.

Definitely still the plan. Here is the current Top 50, restricted to 1933-1964. Once I get my final 19 cards, will expand to two frames and cover 1933-1980.

I particularly like some of the mini-runs shown here. On the top row, Frisch and Hornsby are neighbors and were in real life traded for each other. And starting the next row, what an amazing Big Three for the NY Giants! Also really enjoy the 1939 PB Joe D and Dickey side by side.

Nice display Jason.

I am probably the odd man out but I like the 1964 Topps cards at the bottom the most.

For a long time, the 1957s were my favorite. But now that I've added the Diamond Stars, that's my new favorite run.

As an aside, I had to crack open 6-7 slabs for this display. I can definitely say BVG are the hardest and scariest to open. Was scared to death I was going to kill the card. And when it finally popped, still had the soft plastic case to slice with only a hair's width to spare. Survived it though.

Great display Jason! The Paige and the Hubbell are two that are very high on my want list.

Hubbell has so many nice cards. For me, this Diamond Stars and the 1933 Sport Kings one top the list. Saw both around the same time for around the same price but chose the DS mainly since the SK seller seemed really sketchy.

Well this one could have gone badly!! With about 2 min to go, I meant to bid $11.49 but accidentally bid $1149. Couldn't find a cancel or undo, so just crossed my fingers things didn't get crazy. In the end, paid about $5 more than I wanted to, but could have been worse. And now only 18 cards to go for my Top 100.

Default 1964 New arrivals

Here are a few of my January new arrivals. Obviously, I'm into oddball variations. Anyone ever seen the Phillies team with missing letters? It's rough, but interesting.

In case the added background (not much!) is useful, here is the Standard Catalog 5th Ed (2015) on the Torre.

And here is Beckett.

Even the merge of the two checklists is incomplete in that eBay is also showing a signed Nellie Fox for sale.

Would love to see what the Hank Aaron looks like.

Picked these Clementes up yesterday. The 3D's I'm not sure about. They don't look or feel modern. I like them and think they are legit. The other two seem to be cut from a package/product. I know I've seen the B&W pose before and the other one looks the same colors as a milk dud.
