Default Couple recent pins on E-Bay...

Posted By: Aaron M.

As there's been a lot of discussion in this forum of vintage baseball pinbacks in the last few weeks (and that happens to be my favorite collecting niche), I wanted to note a couple really cool examples that closed recently.

First this uber-valuable "I'm for Roger" Roger Maris "60 in '61" pin which was produced during his single-season home run record chase and has a Mickey Mantle companion pinback (clearly you were either for Mickey or Roger back in the day).

This is, I believe, the third Maris pinback to surface on E-Bay this year alone, after no examples turning up for public sale for years, but prices remained very high with this one going for $6,600. (Which does raise the specter to beware of possible counterfeits.) I think the Maris version is one of the most valuable vintage baseball pinbacks in existence.

Next up was this much more affordable "Bob Feller Club" pinback which I was unfortunately the underbidder on -- I believe it dates to the 1940's. I haven't seen a decent example of this pin offered in quite some time.

Also, not to "out" any current auctions, but a noted E-Bay power seller just listed several unique pinbacks, all of which look to be in great condition.

I understand the scarcity of the Maris pin, but I would never spend that kind of money on a pinback from the 60s. Just consider the pieces you could buy with that kind of funding.

Just imagine what would happen if a box full of those Maris pinbacks were found somewhere....think about what happened in the last year with the Dormand Gil Hodges postcard!!!! It can happen.

Dan, I also agree. That price seems crazy but who knows. What was the last price that pin sold for? Hard to accept that something that is exactly as old as I am is worth that much.

I really dont think that is going to happen with this pin. It was put out very late in the H.R. race and I believe It wasnt really mass produced (so to speak) Owning one of them it took me a long time to fine a nice one as alot of them tended to fox rather easily. Having one is like owning one of lets say the big "6" in card collecting. And Im happy to have it! I guess its one man passion cards ,gloves, photos, bats, and in my case pins!
