Default Texas Set

Can anybody tell me anything about a group of cards issued by Life Insurance Company of the Southwest in Dallas ? I just got 9 different black and white 2 7/8 X 3 7/8 with little known players in various uniforms. The latest date I see on the reverse bio's is 1977.

I suspect Texas-bred players but.............. An interesting regional in any event.

Thanks for any info.

Mark

A scan would be helpful, but I think you are referring to a 1986 Dallas convention set. It was probably autograph signers for a big Dallas show back then. Randy

Thanks Randy.

Unfortunately I still haven't the ability to scan but will see if I can get it done. The unheralded players are: Kotrany, Gliatto, Murray, Samford, Macko, Borom, Aube, Beeler and Herrscher if that helps any.

I've only heard of a couple of them. If they were autograph guests at a show I can't imagine the demand was very high. Thanks again.

Mark

The set that you refer to was issued for the 1977 or 78 ( I forget which) Dallas Sports Collectors Show held at the old Twin 60's Hotel and put on by Gervise Ford. The set was sponsered by SW Life Insurance Co. The players in the set are mostly of local's that played with the Dallas Eagles of the Texas League. Many had brief Major League but long minor league careers. Joe Macko was a power hitting 1st baseman for the Eagles and later the long-time clubhouse man for the Texas Rangers and father of Cubs player Steve Macko (82 Topps card) who died at a young age of cancer. Rick Herschier was a star basketball & baseball player at SMU and later with the Mets and a retired Dallas Docter.
